XS46U....maybe

Thinking of adding a springer to my collection. My great big collection of 1 PCP. Looking at the XS46U, but what about tune options. Should I go with a full spring tune or a gas ram?

Check in with Mike.  I think the gas ram version includes a tune.  From there it's down to personal preference - gas strut versus steel spring.  There are pros and cons for each.  You never get torque or twang with a strut.  On the other hand it is more expensive to replace when it fails.  I have no failure data on either as I've never had either fail - just lucky I guess.

Either way the guns do have a good reputation here on the site.

Call Mike Melick at Flying Dragon Air Rifles.....have a bit of a chat......he will steer you right! I scored a 46 in 177 with full spring tune about this time last year. No spring noise, nice solid thump. Shot great right out of the box, now after several 10k's of pellets, it AMAZES me! This inexpensive, heavy, not svelte at all rifle will stand side by side with my Beeman R9 in 177 and there is no difference in group size at all......and we have these airguns so we can get to that goofy grin stage.......so my advice is go ahead, get a TUNED 46 and start feeding it--alot! (p.s.-my 46 loves jsb 8.44 exacts)

Bought the .22 version about a month ago.  Mike convinced me that the gas piston was not the way to go as the cocking effort is tremendous.

Hmmm... had my piston conversion from Mike for about a year now with no problems. He never mentioned the cocking effort.

I think I will be happy with the spring. Now I just have to keep waiting, it is on backorder. I keep telling myself "good things are worth waiting for".....I hate waiting.

Mine was twangy at first but it got a whole lot quieter after a couple cans of pellets accuracy improved also.

Mine loves the 14.4 gr JSB Exact and H&N FTT are close second.
