Looking for a scope

Does anyone have the HAWKE VARMINT 6-24X44 1/2 MIL DOT scope and do you like it for the money or do you have a better suggestion.  I'm looking for a better scope for my .22 mrod that I'm converting to bullpup.  The scope I now have has the front AO adjuster and I want the side wheel.  The only thing I'm a little concerned about on this scope is the minimum 6 power.  I mostly squirrel hunt and I wonder about picking up a moving squirrel at close range.

I find having the scope at 10 power makes it hard to find a critter at 35-50 yards

Leupold V1 rimfire  2-7x28. No ao. Very great glass all the power you will need for the distance you shhot and only weighs 8oz. People buy too much power and heavy scopes.

If you do not mind having your eye touching the eyepiece, you could try a MTC Connect. The field of view is so large even on higher powers it is easy as falling off log to get game in scope. I also like the MTC Mamba lite, have the 4-16 on my Royale and the 3-12 on my Sumatra Carbine. Here is my Connect on my Hummingbird. So far I am really liking the MTC products, but have not had any for more than a year. I did have two different Leupolds, & a Bushnell 4200 Elite on my Royale and like the Mamba Lite better than those.

i've got the 6-24 varmint and feel it's the best scope i've had , but i've only had lower priced scopes . compared to the CP 4-16x40 , bushnell banner 4-16x40AO and the leapers accushot 4-16x44 SWAT i've had i like the varmint the best . IMO it looks better looking through it and at it and i like the reticle better for my plinking and target shooting . if i were a hunter the heavier mil-dots of the leapers were easier for my eyes to pick up in dark brush and such . i found i didn't care for illuminated reticles and over time grew to appreciate the sleeker less cluttered look of the varmint also . at higher power the varmint will be fairly critical about eye placement so keep that in mind . i like that the H/V turrets are fully covered/protected with aluminum caps and they turn easily with my sausage fingers , i also appreciate the hashes that help keep track of how many full turns of the turrets have been made . and the side focus turns easily and solidly so it doesn't need a SWAT wheel nearly as bad as the accushot . it would be nice to have a inexpensive one available for the finer measuring of distance but i haven't seen a aftermarket/custom wheel for anywhere near what i'd be willing to pay . at some point i may take a shot at homebrewing one , there's some doable looking articles on the WWW showing how to make them very economically .

i don't real hunt but i do like to follow squirrels with mine on 6x and at 10ish or more yards and faux hunt . keeping them in the FOV is fine to me unless something causes them to scramble ..... like the neighborhood cat suddenly appearing .

i also like hawkes transferable lifetime warranty ..... although i haven't had to use it . FWIU they give great customer service when it's needed and that's comforting to know .

but ...... since it's going on a PCP ..... i came very close to getting the "BSA Tactical Mil-Dot Rifle Scope 30mm Tube 6-24x 44mm Side Focus Glass Etched Mil-Dot Reticle" scope from midway . in the end for me the deciding factor was springer compatibility , though i suspect the BSA might be half a hair brighter with it's bigger tube and objective and i think it uses real glass opposed to some sort of polycarbonate that i'm guessing the hawke uses since they weigh so little  . i've read some  comments by folks about them that seem to know what they're talking about . this is a special Midway contracted scope not available from other sellers of BSA products ... FWIU .

i don't have a springer now , but i do want to get one since i mostly keep my DBO/2289 carbine as a 1322 pistol now .

I've never had to go below 10x on my current 4-16 scope
so down to 6x will be plenty for me...
But I don't do much squirrel hunting mostly just pigeons, starlings, and deer.

Thanks for the advice.  Buying air rifles and scopes are hard because there aren't as many people around you with them and very few guns at local shops to look at.  I have a Cabela's 30 minutes away and they have a very small selection of guns and supplies for air guns.  You almost have to buy it and decide that's not what I wanted.  That's one thing that makes it so expensive to get into airgunning.  This is why these forums ant the participation of you experienced shooter are so valuable.
