I'm guessing not many of us here need another gun, but don't let your want if the 50s fade. They are great rifles. I've had mine for about nine years now, rock solid and fun to shoot. About two years ago I refreshed it with a PG2 kit. Made a great rifle even better.
Congrats! I think you'll be very pleased with your new shooter. RC
After reading your first post I had to respond too. I also had the exact idea-size /handling and power. My first gun was a tuned R9 and I got rid of it within 4 months. It shook the screws loose and was extremely hold sensitive(915fps with a 7.9gr premier). Just not a fun gun. I understand now adays there are better tunes to smooth it more. But I learned from it and 7.2lb listed then adding a scope ring set and scope (not a large scope mid you) pushed the darn thing almost 9lbs. My next Springer i rebuilt and used a Maccari kit was FWB 124. Again about the same size and weight, BUT the power was 815fps (100fps lower than the R9) and it was not hold sensitive. It didnt shake screws loose either. I still sold it off though because carrying it in the field was a bear . I didnt use a sling as I like carrying rifles. This all lead me to the idea of a slightly smaller lighter gun with similar or almost the same power. Hence the HW50s. GREAT GUN. Mine was in 22cal and it was fully tuned .It generated 600fps with a 14.3 gr JSB Express. No hold sensitive and deadly accurate just like my R7 (Which I love). IF I got it in 177cal it would put it just about on par with the FWB 124 as tuned 50s go just over 800fps. Its 6.8lbs,40.5". too .Now the cocking is more than the FWB 124 but heres what you can do. Make sure you put on a nice long muzzle brake which will assist leverage making it easier to cock. Also Vortec makes 3 differant power levels and Im sure JM can supply a kit that can turn down a bit of that power. A full tune is very very important. I know its expensive usually costing almost the price of the gun but when you understand all the things done ,it makes that gun run smoother, quieter, tighter ,and wear the minimum -its surely worth it. Im talking Sunnen Hone the cylinder, button the piston, deburring ,custom spring guide, trigger tuned, hardened steel pins etc. I even had my factory stock touched up with the finger groove routered into the forestock and real cut checkering to make the stock fancy--( Top gun in picture) .
I think you made a great decision!
