Hi guys, I got my 340 N-Tec premium last week and it was a really nice rifle, dead on accurate. But, out of the box the trigger has excessive 1st stage travel and no 2nd stage at all. This was totally different from my 34 T06 out of the box. I tried to adjust according to the manual and instructions found here but it is still up in the air so to speak. The deal breaker was a metal to metal grinding (ratcheting almost) noise when bringing the barrel up to lock after being cocked. I contacted PA and Umarex service but neither seeing this new model could only offer suggestions. I lubed all points within my capabilities but the noise became worse to the point it scared off nuisance pests I eliminate around my farm. PA took the rifle back for exchange on another n-tec premium and this one has not arrived as of yet. PA cs was to request that their service dept. inspect the replacement for any cocking noise and offer more detailed info on adjusting the trigger. I watched a video on yt and saw the quy bend the tab to move the trigger blade back so adjustments could be made. This is not wise with cast aluminum but I did fab a 1mm shim that would go between tab and trigger blade and if the replacement rifle is quiet during cocking I will try the shim; if the rifle barrel makes noise on the upstroke it will be returned for a refund if Umarex or PA cannot resolve the issue. Mine came today. Very well made and accurate. No grinding noise on mine. I agree, there is little, if any first stage on the trigger, but it is supposed to be a T06, and I have not tried to adjust it. Mine broke very light and crisp out of the box. Barrel was oily and I scrubbed the &^^& out of it. About 75 shots this afternoon, and it still smokes when you open the breach. Offhand with the open sights is at least as accurate as any of my other guns. I like the shot cycle! Feels like a tuned gun. I found some barrel droop, and I will be buying compensating mounts for the Hawke scope.

Update. I took the droop mount off my 34 and the scope zero'd right in. I'm shooting 1 hole with JSB 15.89 domes. I'm very satisfied with it. It is NOT more quiet than the 34.....about the same noise level. It is still smoking some. I will chronograph it when it gets broken in.

Good information on the first impressions. If I decide that I need/want a gas spring in .22 I will have to give the 340 N-Tec a hard look since it is a little less $$$ than the RX2

The plain-jane version Ntec is $449 ....a LOT less than an Rx2

I sold/traded a D34 Vortek pro tuned .177 and I'm wondering if the N-Tec's will shoot as nice since there is no twisting from spring torque with the Gas spring which is what I like about the RX2 . It makes for a smoother shot cycle and a touch easier to be accurate with an un tuned rifle

I have to get used to the T06 trigger. Like someone else posted, cannot predict the second stage yet. However, no grinding noise whatsoever. I have the premium .177 model so the stock and stippling looks and feels great. Cocking is a little harder than my HW97 but way easier than my HW90. I find that just resting the stock on my open hand yields better accuracy. So far it seems to like the JSB Exacts 8.44 gr.

I'm not here to rain on the RWS 34 parade, but if it were me (and it currently is), I would put my money towards a fully tuned XS-25 from Mike Melick over an out-of-the-box RWS 34.

HOWEVER, if you have the money to buy an RWS 34 and then ship it off to get it tuned, I would choose that for sure.

Untuned XS-25 -> Untuned RWS 34 -> Tuned XS-25 -> Tuned RWS 34

Mike @ FD sells fully inspected clones even if untuned he attempts to separate the wheat from the chaff and fully tuned you end up with a decent copy of the D34. However the D34 is still a better made pellet rifle at the un boxing ceremony JMO This is not intended as a put down of the Flying Dragon rifles and if that is all your budget allows for it remains an excellent choice.
