Shooting my used/new 392.....

I bought a steroid 392 with a leapers 3x9-40 scope from a board member last week. I've been shooting it and I'm not sure I want to continue using the scope. It looks nice on the gun but I have a feeling I might have more accuracy using a williams peep site! Does anyone have an opinion if it's best to not use a scope with this particular gun?
I'm not sure about the power either. I pumped it between 10-12 times and it took three shots to kill a squirrel at 15-20 yards. Could have been the accuracy though....only the last shot was a head shot.
Pumping it isn't too difficult as I've heard others complain about. It's not "easy" but shouldn't be a problem for a grown man.
Any comments would be appreciated!

Do you think that the steroid is powerful enough to justify the cost for it? Cause my brother has a stock 392, and we are contemplating whether we should send it to Mac-1.
As far as the scope and peep sight goes, both my brother and I like the Leapers Bugbuster 6x32ao ill. rectile scope better than the Williams 64 peep sight that we bought when we bought the gun. With the scope(once it is dialed down ((we have it so at 35yds off a rest he can shoot 5 JSB Exact Jumbo RS, he can put those five pellets into one ragged hole that you could cover with a nickel!)) you can see the target, the hole it makes, ect. that you couldn't with the peep sight. Our experience with both the scope and the peep sight tells us that the scope is NEVER COMING OFF!
My vote says, stick with the right scope!(you do have the Avanti Weaver... intermount?)

When I bought it I was told it only had about 200 pellets through it. I don't have a chrony so it's hard to tell exactly what it's shooting at this point. I was just surprised with 10-12 pumps it took three shots to take down that nutter. I'm using 16g predator pellets too. I like the gun but it's gonna take me a few more kills to decide if it's a keeper for hunting.
If the gun is a keeper for you then I would say the upgrades are worth it.
And they cut dovetails for you when they do the steroid for easy mounting.

Power seems just fine....must have been my accuracy first go 'round! Two more nutters down and it wasn't even fair LOL.
