I may have received a de-gassing tool with my FD PCP but it's not around now, so... First, do I need to de-gas to remove and polish the trigger assembly? Secondly, how do I de-gas other than firing it a whole bunch of times?

There is no need to degas to remove the trigger.
You can fire a bunch of times, use a screwdriver to lever the valve, press on it another way. Lots of options.

Not sure how this happened but letting out the air to fast the seal on the valve poppit came out. So I would recommend not letting the air out to fast. For degassing with barrel off I made a step down wood plug for the barrel opening and after removing the hammer adjusting assembly use a wooden dowel behind the hammer. Using a screw type bar clamp slowly released the pressure. Like StevenG mentioned there are probably a lot of options that I also would be glad to learn from.
