I brought up the question of the need for the little flat spring in the 880's, in another thread. well, I finally got around to taking it out of my rogers 880, yesterday. I'm here to tell ya, it ain't needed. it didn't change the need to cock before pumping, like some thought it might. it DID make the trigger much smoother. if you ever looked at the nub that rides in the square hole in the spring, you'll notice that it wears a notch in the trigger nub that the trigger has to come out of ,when pulled. polish all you want, it'll wear that groove in the trigger again, eventually. remove the flat spring, and, you're one step closer to a decent trigger.

 I was experimenting with modding that piece last night. Guess I'll take it right out of the 95 880 I was toying with  . Thanks!

Good info.   I never tried one with out the flat spring, just because it is designed as a trigger lock.   And i do not that you can un-cock even without it.

Now I will have to give that a try.

Yeah, pretty sure it is there so that you cannot discharge the gun unless the bolt is fully closed, pressing it down.
Would guess it was put there as a result of the early lawsuit.

I was just about to ask. I was sure it had some purpose, on a gun this inexpensive no part is going to be there just to be there. Seems safe enough to remove then.

   I did notice with the mods I did to that piece last night, the bolt partially open the gun would still shoot. So I have to say, that is it's purpose. Out of habit I always check the bolt on an ag, so no biggie to me

Ok I can now say that this mod works well.     I have done it to my Daisy 881 for testing, it smooths out the old trigger a bit.   Can not wait to see what it does for the new trigger.

it seems to take that stutter out of the trigger. definitely a mod worth trying.
