I really gone and done it. I bought a 397PA. seller said it needs resealed. no big deal. it should be hereby the time I get back, this weekend.
it looks almost mint, in the pics. not a scratch on it, and, I couldn't see any brass showing through.

when it comes time to tear it down, are there any special tools required to remove the valve? I've never had one in my hands, let alone tried to fix one. any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was kinda torn between that, and, a dan. problem is, the dan's are  out of my budget, at least the one's in decent shape. I only paid 100.00 for it. that was the "buy it now" price. it came up as I was cruising gunbroker. it was only listed for about 5 minutes, before I snatched it up.

just got done looking at a youtube video. looks like it ain't much different than all the other crosman pumpers. should be a piece of cake  .

That looks like it is the same kind as the 392 I had as a teen.   You will love it, mine was only my fourth AirRifle ever (the first a Crosman 101, second a unknown moddel Daisy that I never used much, the third a Crosman 2200 that I never made much use of).

I wish I still had all of the AirRifles from my youth (especially the Crosman 101, there is something about a first).

Scott... good find... you'll love it. The tools are relatively simple to make. If it needs a kit, the one PA sells should have the tool in it. If you choose to go with a MAC1 kit, you will get secret sauce with it but no tool. If you can't or don't want to make the tool or order the kit with it supplied, I have 2 of them and if you send me an address, I'll hook ya up with one. I like the one Tim at MAC1 made, it has a big wing nut on it for pulling out the valve. I don't think he offers them tho.

Nice fine, what gets more then anything is all the great offers for help. I don't think I would of gotten my Sheridan done without Jon. Here you are getting the same kind of offers to help. Great group of people. You will have to show a picture when you get it.

Good for you, Scott. Our early 90s vintage 397A is one of our most accurate air guns and that's saying a lot, since we have some high end springers and PCP guns. Ours absolutely loves Crosman Premier HPs.

Don't those have a cartridge type valve? I think you just unfasten it and squirt it out with a quick pump. If yours has the dreaded aluminum valve, I think crosman is shipping brass ones these days, tk

from what I've seen on boobtube, it should be the cartridge type valve. I plan on getting a brass valve if mine turns out to be aluminum.

do the 397's take the same pump cup as the 13xx's?? if so, I have a couple new spares laying around. same for the valve stems, poppets.

Nope.. different monster I think. I only have the one 397 and I'm trying to think... I do beleive it's different. I can tell you for sure when I get home from work this evening, I have a kit on the bench.

Hey Scott, the kit I have is for my '69 Benji 347. I got it from Tim. I rebuilt the valve and didn't need to replace the cup. Here is the strange thing.... the cup that came with the kit is a weird dude to say the least. I almost looks like a springer piston seal except the center hole is raised and much smaller. Tim linked me to the kit and I just realized that the cup on his site looks nothing like what I have here. The one on his site looks a lot like a 13xx cup. I haven't had the piston out of my 347 so I can't tell you if this is the right cup or not. I only had to rebuild the valve and compress to cone spring to make it dump all 8 pumps.... sorry man, not much help here. I do have the tool if you need it. Is it the first three or first four? Mine 392pa is # 5987067xxx I thought it was a May 98 but the first four makes it somewhere in 87?
