Pawn Shop R9 Find.. $$ worth it?

Found nice Beeman R9 in .20! BUT $300 sounds high for used.. I prob could talk that down $50 bucks, er so.. How much would you fellas value it?.. VG condition..

I have a side question that pertains to pawn shops. How many of these air rifles do you figure are stolen? I have a tendency to think that lots of things in pawn shops are stolen goods. I know they all aren't, but my gut tells me many are. Just wondering what others think?

Personally, the Pawn shop probably only has less than a $100 in it, Offer them $200 or a little less, feel them out on the money and see just where they stand. The problem I see is, is you have no idea who had the R9 and how well it was taken care of!

Yes it is worth 250 to 300 as long as it has been taken care of!
Remember its a Pawn Shop, so dont be afraid to haggle a little over money...

Thats pretty good question.  But just to play devils advocate, what if you really wanted a RWS54 in .20 or .22cal?  And lets say said rifle is at a pawn shop, a shady pawn shop. And said rifle is $300.  Would feeling that it may be stolen property, would it prevent you from purchasing it?  Not trying to start nothing but sometimes you got to take a lil bit of bad to get a whole lot of good, lol.

My personal ethics say, I won't buy anything I think may be stolen particularly if the price is too good!

Cautionary tale about pistols, not air rifles.  My nephew had a 38 revolver stolen over 20 years ago.  Eventually, it ended up getting taken off a bad guy.  The police tracked back to my nephew who had filed a theft report back then.  He eventually got his gun back.  Since it was taken off a bad guy, financial loss seemed to be appropriate so poetic justice.  Even a long ago theft can come up again. 

On the other hand, a friend bought a nice gun at a gun show.  It needed to be sent in for some work.  The original owner from whom it had been stolen had contacted the manufacturer - who kept a file!!  The friend lost his investment and got questioned by the cops pretty severely to boot.  Luckily he could prove he bought it at a show rather than being the thief.

I've had stuff stole from me before and I didn't like it, and I am Karma based, if that answers your question.. I worked at a PB shop for a while. When we took PB in on trade you actually have to fill out a form that goes directly to the man, and the numbers are checked on the hot sheet.. I 'think' that the pawn shops have something similar to that with all their merch.. Please correct me if I'm wrong..

It looked like new, but I am ALWAYS scared of used break barrels.. What if some kid dry fired it hundred times? lol.. It felt OK, but I didn't cock it but about 1/4 of the way.. Imagine if anyone looked at it and cock/dry fired it in that very shop..

Maybe I should go back during a slow time for them with a thick phone book in hand, my chrony and a few .20 pellets, LOL!

I'll prob go back with only $200 in my pocket and test my best poker face negotiations out.....

Figuring what JUNK $200 buys in an air gun these days  Being a german HW and not some foreign knock off version... if wear & tear looks minimal then it is worth more than trying to steal it.

I'm no source of info on an R9. Never met one personally. But I do know pawn shops, having worked in one and frequenting them on a regular basis. I am also a former computer repair shop owner and have bought plenty of used computers. Laptops would probably be as, or near as popular to steal and hock as guns are. I was required by law (as are pawn shops) to report my daily purchases to the local authorizes and hold the item for a minimum of 15 days before I could offer it for resale. I also had to co-operate and hand over any item, along with the ID of the seller, to the authorities on demand. My only hope of financial recovery was in small claims court against the seller.

I agree 100%, here where I live I have been in and talked to pawn dealers and they do the same everyday, so it is more than likely a clean R9. I guarantee that as much as that Springer costs new and if it was stolen it would have been reported by the owner and been back in their hands by now. Just about every time I have been in the pawn shop here a police officer has come in checking the reports!

It is nice to know that things are a little safer to buy from them today, years ago they did not keep such good records.

I would definitely buy it without worrying!
