Pivot brass washers how-to guide?

Hello,

I just got the brass pivot washers from Gene for my Benjamin Titan NP. Is there a detailed guide or video on how to change them? I'm new to air rifles, and this is my first mod on the Titan NP. I've searched but I only find threads saying how good they are, but none explaining how to install them.

I know of no such guide.  The process is pretty simple, though.  You must remove the stock.  There are two Phillips head screws on the forearm - one on each side.  Remove them.  There is a third screw, accessed through a hole in the trigger guard.  Remove it, too.  Careful - the trigger guard on some guns is a brittle plastic.  The action may now be removed from the stock.

The pivot screw is the big common screw near the rear of the barrel, where it joins the action.  It may be kind of tight so be sure to use the best fitting screwdriver you've got to prevent marring it.  Remove it.  I had one gun where I actually had to use an impact driver to remove it, but that's rare.

The barrel can now be removed.  It may be a tight fit as there is quite a bit of pressure on the plastic washers.  you may have to work it back and forth or even pry it out.  While you're at it be sure not to lose any small parts on the linkage.  There is one U shaped piece of plastic which may fall off.  Move the barrel as little as possible away from the action as you may disconnect the cocking linkage from the gun if you're not careful.

With the barrel out, there's a plastic washer in a depression on each side.  Simply take them out and install the brass ones.  Add a bit of moly for lubrication.  Reassemble in reverse order.  It may help to put a Phillips screwdriver through the pivot hole to work the barrel back into position.  Be careful of the threads.

If you get the barrel back on and the screw started you're almost done.  Break the barrel like cocking it.  It won't cock as there is no pressure against the linkage.  Tighten the pivot screw until the barrel exhibits some resistance to movement.  You can tighten it to where it will stay in any position in which you put it but I find that a bit too tight.  Get it almost to that point but not quite.

Close the barrel and put the action back into the stock.  Be sure all screws are started before you tighten any.  You're done.

You may also want to clean the screw threads and female threads and add blue Loctite.  May need to wait 24 hrs for the Loctite to cure.  JMO

There is also a sleeve that the bolt goes thru. I had to tap the sleeve down to be able to remove the barrel on both of mine Titan and Vantage.

I'm confused. I just looked at Gene's website and it says the washer kits are no longer for sale. I'd love to get my hands on some, but how? Or am I looking at an old post?

Go to the Hardware Store and get some 5/16 Brass Washers. They take some sanding/filing to make the diameter smaller but it is not hard. Just keep checking the fit and go slow. Then they will work just great. I rounded one edge to make it easier for the barrel block to slide over them.

You may follow Don's guidance if you wish.  I personally prefer 3/8" bronze thrust bearings for the purpose.  Thickness is the same, outer diameter is the same.  I get mine at Ace Hardware.

Thanks for the replies! I think the bronze ones will be my choice. Just pulled the barrel, and the washer on one side was chewed up pretty good. Don't know yet what was doing that, but it will be addressed before I put it back together. This thing has turned into a real project, but then, I HAVE to tinker. It's a disease...lol

i did the same but i also had to "Mill" them down to 0.063" each via hand filing before they would fit.

I just removed the stock and the barrel from my Titan NP. Roadworthy's instructions were pretty detailed, and as N6CRV's mentioned, there's also a metal sleeve around the barrel's screw that has to be tapped out with a small flat scredriver. I replaced the plastic washers with Gene's brass washers, they seem to fit perfectly. I added some molly and now I'm putting everything back together, but I have a doubt... Does the round head in the metal bar shown in inside the red circle in the picture supposed to go into the little round hole, so that it moves inside the rail underneath the scope when I break the barrel? It seems to me that it should, but I don't remember pulling it out from the rail when I removed the barrel.

The round head should fit into the slot under the scope.  It probably fell out while you were concentrating on removing the barrel.  Easy to fall out once the barrel is removed.

This is the cocking mechanism, and the bar pushes the ram / piston back.  You will need to fit this back before you install the pivot screw.

Also make sure the little plastic clip/glide did not fall off. It goes on the cocking arm and keeps it from digging into the tube.

I just finished assembling the rifle, I fired a few pellets and everything seems to be working fine. I will wait 24 hours until the blue threadlok I applied to the stock screws dries, and then I will test to see if I can shoot any better with this mod. I think they might have other things on their minds right now.

The bushings are easy enough to make from bronze or brass if you have a drill and a file.
