I have a TKO LDC, three screw mod (but no new trigger), polished leade, recrowned, polished trigger parts, clipped factory spring w/ power adjuster (but could use a better looking screw and purpose-specific spring guide).

I just sold my first springer (*tear*) for $50...so that's what I have to spend. Here is my list, would you add/replace anything:

Extended bolt probe ($12 from Mellon Air)
2nd Barrel band ($7)
Debounce Device (could make one for $1 from Lowe's)
Brass Trigger ($22)
Power Adjuster ($25 from Discos R Us)

Or I could put that money toward a Chrony ($100+)

Thoughts...?

Function trumps fashion.

I vote save it and commit to add $5 or $10 per week.
In a month you might have different desires and better supporting funds.

Do the Disco's benefit from a longer bolt probe? I thought they already had a longer probe than most of the other Crosman/Benji guns. $50 is a good chunk of a chrony! I got one on sale in December for somewhere around $65 I think. Keep your eye on the bargain gate would be my advice. Especially for a CO2 or HPA gun a chrony seems like a really good investment.

All good starts. I would go for the Chrony, first. That way you can tune what you got. The Debounce Device is a waste IMO. I never have any problems with hammer bounce and my Disco is set up to shoot hard (40fpe), and others on this fourm have Discos that are just beasts. 2nd barrel band will be good. I use a stock bolt with no issues. The Mellonaire RVA (pwr adj.) is nice. I have one and worth the cash. You can always buy more hammer springs to experiment with. I have very heavy springs, stock springs, even 13XX springs. I use them in the lengths they come in and cut some down to experiment with.

Word to the wise, and tri-5-ron will agree---gets real expensive, real fast.

Save for the Chrony.

Then you can determine which other mods will do the most good.

Not getting stuff is not as much fun, but I'd save a little more and get a Chronograph. Won't need a fancy one, just a basic version and a pen/paper.

Making changes to your gun aren't advantageous, unless you can see if they are an actual improvement.

If money is tight you can make a power adjustor for a few dollars...and save for a chronny. I got parts from McMaster-Carr (knurled bolt, screw, made spring guide) but You can do even cheaper if you want.

Yeah it's longer, or do like mooseslayer said, just make one. You will need a #10-32x1" socket cap screw for the adjuster and a #8-32x3/4" socket cap screw for the spring guide. I would also polish and lube the hammer and the part of the tube where it slides. I use non detergent motor oil. Silicone grease is to thick.

The extended bolt probes *do* help, especially when the probe is turned to a diameter of .060".

I always make sure my probe seats the pellet or slug right at the forward edge of the transfer port hole in the barrel.
If you have your barreled breech off the gun you can close the bolt, mark the probe at the forward edge of the barrels transfer port hole then add the skirt depth to that mark and you have a perfect probe length. A JSB Kings skirt in .25 caliber is roughly .140" deep.
The probe length will be shorter in .22 or .177 as the transfer ports are smaller in diameter.

My .25 caliber probes using a 3/16" transfer port are .250" long (coincidence) x .060" in diameter.

Slugs will seat .140" deeper than a pellet (again, in .25 caliber) so your leade may need some work too so it can be chambered properly.
The advantage to doing this is twofold: accuracy & power.
By having the pellet *just* forward of the transfer port all of your air gets behind the pellet without any waste (power) and the pressure will not deform the bottom edge of the skirt (accuracy).

The other side of this is the bolt will not leave as much room in the loading port due to the longer probe.
I remove about 1/8" (at the most!) from the rear of the bolt to give that much more on the loading port side. Remove too much and there's not enough bolt to push the hammer pin back far enough to cock the gun...its a balancing act.
If you're shooting a .22 caliber its not as bad since the pellets are shorter in length anyway.

This is why I've gone to side cockers so I don't need the hammer pin/bolt to cock the gun. I mill the bolt handle slot longer and that allows me to load a slug up to .650" long since the bolt recesses fully into the breech when opened.

Long answer to a simple question but at least you know *why* you eventually want an extended probe bolt...just be aware of the other factors involved.

After saying all this I am with the other guys - you will benefit the most from a chronograph.
