Asking for honest opinions on BSA

This is my first BSA, first gas ram and my first .22 air rifle. I have questions for everyone with experience. #1. Real opinions about BSA. I bought a gun, not the company, so brutal honesty is appreciated. I have a good 500 rounds through it and I think the gun is LOUD. It sounds like a rimfire on every shot. It isn't supersonic. It sounds like a loud CO2 gun. Is this normal for a 22 gas piston or gas pistons in general? It isn't a deal breaker, I just didn't anticipate that much difference in sound. The gun isn't grouping yet. My journey is long.;o) haha

If it is still not grouping at 1k rounds, I would start worrying, AS LONG AS you know that your technique is good.
Also, is the loudness accompanied by a petroleum type smell? Take a shot, open the breech, and take a sniff near the open breech block.

The weather is too cold for spending very much time outside with my BSA, but I can say that the guns noise level has dropped, the rifle is grouping and I now have a chronograph. Let the weather get a little nicer and I'll do a thorough rundown on the GRT Supersport.

Sounds like dieseling, or worse, detonation. That's what happens when some improper lube gets into the compression chamber.
If it is quieting down and grouping now, then the excess lube has likely finished burning out.

If you are shooting standard weight pellets, >14gr, then it shouldn't sound like a rimfire. It is either dieseling or one Powerhouse gun....
Stay away from light pellets they will damage your gun...

In my experience with a SS, a strip, clean and re-lube is required.

Now that mine is broken in and printing some really good groups at 20 yards I'm pretty happy with mine. I never took mine apart, but did take it out of the stock a couple of times and things looked pretty clean. I kind of doubt my next gun will be a BSA but will most likely be a .22. I have a GRT-4G trigger ordered and right now I'm not sure that I'll use it on this gun. I think the trigger is getting better because I've been shooting it quite a lot. I'm looking forward to hearing more about your rifle.
