Msrauder - Robert Lane Reg. Install

I have a Synrod and just got in my Robert Lane regulator. The regulator came with the large spacer. My question is, is there enough air volume created by the spacer to push a pellet or do I need to hollow out the gauge block some. I'm not a machinist but if I need to I can drill the gauge block out on my drill press. I would prefer not to. Since a reg. vent hole must be drilled, I only get one shot at getting this right. Any help is appreciated.
Also, the regulator cannot use the gauge hole for a vent. The hole in the air cylinder is already too large for the regulator.

I used the big spacer and hogged out my gauge block...I also used one of Motorhead's light weight hammers...Mine is .22 caliber and I am VERY pleased...50+ shots @ ~29ftlb...

Generally if you use a HOGGED out Gauge manifold ( HILLGSA ) also sells them pre-done, you can place Reg up flush and no spacer required.  * Added plus doing this way is you get more air tank storage space.

MANY threads on Regulation conversions and suggestions on getting the most from rifle when doing so.

Thanks for the replies. I'll probably drill it out next time I pull the regulator.

Since I hadn't really shot my Marauder, I went ahead and installed the regulator and shot it over my chrony to see what it would do. The readings were not at all what I was hoping for. My regulator is set to 1600psi.

I shot a 40 shot string with a spread of 80.

I shot four 10 shot strings with spreads of 22, 8, 30 and 53.

I have adjusted anything else on my gun yet, so everything is at factory settings.
I'm shooting Crosman Primiers 14.3 grains.

Does anyone have any ideas why my numbers are that high?

I would recommend:
a -Change out the transfer sleeve ( .125 i.d. ) to a larger one, in your case .140 . You can try this and see how it goes, you can open up the inlet and outlet ports of the valve body, and open up the barrel inlet port, later if you want/need to. But for now, it may be too complicated for you?
b- Open the valve screw to 5.5 ccw ( remove the set screw first, when re-installing the set screw - stop when it touches the valve screw ).
c- Hammer Spring;  turn ccw until you reach your velocity goal, or the velocity just starts to drop about 10 fps, if the velocity does not start to drop and you run out of H.S. adjustment ( fully ccw ), then start turning the hammer stroke adjuster cw until the pellets velocity starts to drop.
d- Shoot the rifle 200+ times
e- You may need to adjust the regulator up or down to meet your velocity goal.

Did you install the regulator per instructions, with the vent hole up, to keep from allowing the silicone to drip out - and causing early o-ring failure?
You may be ok with installing the regulator against the valve body if you are going for no more than about 28 fpe.
The regulator should be ok, installed that way, since there is pressure forcing it against the valve body ( it should not move back and over the gauge hole and allow for a leak ).

Did yo drill the hole for venting...if not it will not work correctly!
I think that 1800 PSI on the regulator is better, mine is set at 1800 PSI with recommendations from others here on the GTA, and you have to use the spacer as well as hog out the gauge block, I did it like you did at first and after I hogged out the gauge block as well as enlarged the TP ports I gained 100 FPS. It took a few hundred shots until my Regulator finally settled down and become more consistent. It now shoots 15.9 JSBs at 920 FPS, before I could only get in the low 800 FPS range.

If you do not use the spacer you will not have enough Plenum volume and you will get low results.

Also Follow HillGSA's write up and open everything up, you can always tune it back with the hammer spring adjuster and hammer stroke.

My gun is the Disco but it is all in the same concept...

I suppose you are referring that post to me! If not well sorry!

Never said it would be the same as a Disco, and it is no different than if it were a Disco in terms of how much air and plenum in the same caliber that it would need. You are pushing the same pellet out the same size barrel with the same amount of air pressure and volume, just because one has a different name doesn't mean they are that much different!

My Disco has a 250CC air volume and fills to 3000 PSI with a BNM breech and oversized TP ports and valve, as well as the plenum has at least 1 cc of air volume per FPE  it basically is a Marauder in a sense. It takes a certain amount of volume, flow and pressure to move that 14.33 grain pellet at the FPS you want, if all those match with the Marauder sizes and specs then one is no different than the other. You can name it what you want its all still a matter of physics.

And besides what I said is correct and if I hadn't mentioned it being a Disco you would have never known the difference now would you, why, because the info I gave even though it really is a Disco is correct even for a Marauder!

And yes I know plenty about tuning a Marauder which I have owned as well as a Disco.

I did drill the regulator vent hole on the barrel side(top) of the air cylinder. I'll make the adjustments suggested and take a look at HillGSA's material. It may just need more shots for it to settle like William said. Motörhead, I hoped it would be that easy but I knew it wouldn't be. We'll get it figured out sooner or later.
