how many shots before gun needs to be taken apart and lubricated

Ok so i have a new benjamin trail np2 . I have put about 300 pellets through it. When is it time to disassemble and lube it up or ad moly as many seem to use ?

when i get a break barrel i plan to shoot it 5-10 times to check for proper function and then do a tune .

I got my new TX 200 and shot it about 100 shots and cleaned the barrel with a patch. Then another 500 and did a full tune clean and lube.
Probably won't do anything for 2500 shots after that.

Hi MB650. I don't have an NP2 but I've seen a few posts from people who opened up their fairly new guns and found the nylon balls on the piston were wearing already so if it starts sounding "scrapy" you might want to check that out.

I think you are correct stickstoff it has started to sound weird . I ordered some moly from pyramid air today . Dont think im gonna shoot it anymore until I can take it apart . I hope its not to complicated to take it apart .

Check the recent NP2 threads. I know someone bought delrin balls from mcmaster-carr and they might have listed the size so you could get some ahead of time. The minimum quantity is probably more than you'll ever need but it's sounding like this might be a good item for NP2 owners to have on hand.

I don't know that these "button" balls wearing is an issue, just that I've seen a couple of posts here recently from people with pretty new guns.

I put about 1,000 pellets down my NP2 before I lubed it.  It was relatively easy to disassemble and reassemble.  I don't think I actually had to lube it, but did a teardown mostly out of curiousity  Once disassembled, I gave it a good once over, replaced the seal, removed shape edges, and gave it a good Mo Lube.

Luckily, I did not notice any wear on ball buttons, but will probably look to replace them on my next tear down.  The piston action did improve and quiet down a bit after a Mo lube.

You might also look to replace the pivot washers; huge improvement on accuracy for my NP2.

Dave, take Sticks advice and checkout some of the recent threads on NP2's. NP2_Marksman has some good pictures. I just finished a self tune on mine and could tell the difference as soon as I cocked it. If you plan on changing the rear Nylon guides, I have some extra 4mm Delrin balls that I replaced the stock one with. If you're interested in trying them, PM me with your address and I'll mail you a couple sets. I found the Delrin to be harder than the stock Nylon. They're really cheap $4 plus shipping for 100. I just put my gun back together so, I don't know if they will last longer. Wish, I would have put mine on a chrony before I tore it down, but I did not. Changed out the Piston Seal and have a few burrs on compression tube. Sanded the lever at the boot. A light honing and a little sanding in some key spots have made a big difference...along with a new trigger.
