I have a mold for the Lee # 457-340-F, which drops at 336 gr. in 1% tin/99% lead.... I feel that is a bit heavy for my Hayabusa, and I was looking at the mold with the thought of milling the top of the mold down to remove the rear driving band and leave the bullet looking like a gas-check design.... That would require removing 0.100", which would reduce the weight of the bullet by 47 gr., dropping it to ~ 290 gr., which should put me up close to 900 fps....
Has anyone done this, or do you have any comments?....

Sounds like a fine plan...don't forget to HP it to further reduce weight. Whilst hunting boolit molds for my hand cannon I discovered that Lyman 454xxx molds drop between .457 and .458.
cheers,

The mold is too short for Eric to do a HP conversion on.... I already looked at that possibility.... Perhaps I need to do up a BBT.... I have one calculated that works out to 275 gr. as a solid.... Probably knock off another 10 gr. as a cup point.... I don't think I'd want to go to a huge HP design, they tend to come apart in pure lead....
