Tuned My NP2 Today PICS!

Dokf, when you changed the factory piston seal with the Marcari did you feel any improvement? My gun and my ability to shoot it has settled down to the piont that I'm getting Marksman's groups, after a self tune and factury seal change. Still don't have a crony, but the gun is getting one shot kills at 20 yards on armadillos with head shots.

Personally, I don't think I am a good enough shot to tell if the new seal improved accuracy.  I did note a much improved shot cycle after new seal, buttons, and lube.  It was smooth cocking before, now very smooth cocking.  A slight improvement to muzzle velocity as well.

The pivot washers were the most significant improvement, and took my groups from ~ 4 cm down to less than 1 cm.

1. How much pre-load/pressure was there on the NP2 ram when you took it out of the spring compressor?

2. How far did the NP2 ram extend past the end of the tube when you removed the rear plug?

I did not measure the ram preload when it was apart.  Not sure if I have a way to do that.  I might look at some of my backup rams to see if I can measure their preload.

The ram extends about 2 cm past the tube end when the cap and retainer pin are removed.

One thing to add about the pivot washers is crank that screw down until the barrel can just barely be held in any position after its cocked. That has seemed to be the perfect tightness (I know technical term lol) it minimizes almost all the side to side play the barrel can have at the pivot point

you would think that for a few cents more ........Crosman would just use the brass washers in the first place !?

I agree wth Kim, after the tune and seeing a friend shoot my NP2 better then me😢, my NP2 is a new gun. I got to get a chrony would love to know what it is shooting at. Just wish I would have shot it through a chrony first. One thing for sure, the tune took a great bit of the jolt out of the shooting cycle.

Dizzle, I've asked that question more than once and it's like trying to get blood out of a turnip. You guys absolutely KILL me...you go to all the trouble to break down a gun...but don't measure anything. And how long is it? KILLING me, i tell ya.

John, I don't have a mic at home but the diameter, using a tape seems to be 1 1/8" wide x 5 5/8" long. Again, I got this measurements using a standard tape measurer, so it may be off a bit. Maybe someone with a more accurate measuring system can chime in.

That's about right.  You are pretty accurate with a tape.

OK, thanks!  I just wasn't sure if there was a huge amount of preload, with the ram sticking out 6in or so.

Air Rifle Headquartes has a three seal pack labeled "Crosman-Benjamin-Turkish-Chinese ETC. Seal Pack" for $25.00 plus shipping, seems steep for one. I'm not sure if covers the NP2. Crosman sent me a new piston and seal already assembled when I ordered mine while it was still under warranty. Would change out the factory seal if I knew it would made a difference. I want to chrony my gun first before taking it down again. I'm hesitent to make any changes now that I got grouping as good as it is. I rated the NP2 at three stars when I first received it. Now that it has been self tuned, broken in and rescoped, I rate it at a strong five, even though at times I'm not as consistent as I would like to be with it, but I can't blame that on the gun

I have a new np 2 that should be here tomorrow!  I can't wait to shoot it.  I went with this one over another one of the trail np's because of the new trigger that most reviews say is kind of nice.  Can't wait to get the new edition.
