My HW30 experience not going as expected

I have been researching airguns for a couple months and finally made my first purchase, a Weihrauch HW30 from Pyramyd Air.

Now I'm not going into this blind... I've read about "honking" and barrel scraping, I've read about large groups due to the incorrect pellet, dieseling from excess lubricants, an inaccurate break-in period of 100-500 pellets, the iron sights being too close together, etc, etc...

Let me tell you... this little thing has exceeded my expectations in every single category! It's first 5 shots grouped in the size of a bottle cap (at 10yds) but were about 2" away from target. Sighting in took about 5 more shots. It's next 3 shots hit the bottle cap at 20yds away. No honking, no barrel scrape, no dieseling, accurate pellets thanks to these forums, and what break in period?? It could get a little quieter but if it doesn't that's just fine. I'm 13 pellets into this journey but if this thing actually does get better with time, there's nothing I could do but wet my pants.

I love the HW30S.  I got one about a year ago.  It really reminds me of that .22 rifle you roamed the fields with when you were a kid.  Just the right size and heft and hard to miss with.

I am so sorry you wasted your money. It is a bad Christmas for me this year, just send me your HW30 for Christmas and buy yourself an R11/HW98. I am sure you will be much happier knowing you made my Christmas and got yourself what you really wanted for Christmas.

I'm worried about disturbing the neighbors in a zero lot line community where we share fences. I'm looking into building a silent trap and I REALLY wish I could put a silencer of some sort on this (stupid laws) but I know that's asking a lot as everyone says this is already a quiet gun.

I have a 4-12 scope on the way and cannot wait to see what this puppy can do!

To make a silent trap:

Buy about 10pounds of plumber's putty or Duct Seal putty, make a wooden box about 12"x12"x2"  with a base, put a paper clamp on one end (opposite the base), pack the putty into the target box about 1.5-2.0" deep, count off your favorite distance, add a target of some kind, and shoot away.  Every once in a while dig out all the pellets, re pack the target frame and continue. 

The sound of the pellet hitting with be nominal.   The only significant noise will be from the air rifle. Avoid very light pellets that might go supersonic (they crack!.)

You can get a suppressor legally but they are expensive and the BATF license is too!!!

I suggest setting up to shoot out a door or window and keep the muzzle well inside.  The room will dampen the sound quite a bit.  I do this all the time.  Just be careful not to shoot the window frame...    Remember most scopes are about 1.75-2.00 above the bore and the pellets travel about 1.5" below your sight line at 5 yds.
