Just when I thought that I had all of my decisions made, I had another thought...
I had finally come to terms with spending $$s on a SWFA SS 3-15x42 scope. Sort of happy with this choice because I used to own one of the original early Tasco SS in fixed 10x.
With an air rifle (This one is for a big bore), I try to consider parallax issues, and early bullet drop issues (early versus powder fired arms). I like side focus much better that anything on the bell. The reticule on this scope works well for accurate hold-over also. Somewhere in this process I decided that small hogs up close would require low magnification for quick engagement and the 3x setting fit the bill. Barking squirrels would require the higher magnifications, as would some longer target fun. Yep. I had it all figured out. Then another thought showed up!
For the kind of money that this scope cost I could purchase an Aimpoint CompM4s!
Uh oh! The fast moving little oinkers would be in trouble then... But what about any distance? Wow, remember that this goes on an airgun. She starts a real good drop after about 80 yards. Later, I could co-witness a 3x behind it for the squirrels... More money later of course. It would be light and compact though, to help offset the heavey gun. Most of my shooting would be around 20 to 60 yards I rationalized.
Of course I could do most of the above with a quality 3x or 4x fixed power, likely have no realistic parallex to tend to, no mistakes with where I have it set, no batteries to contend with... But what's the fun in that? No "Cool" factor there!
Anyway, I am trying to decide between the Aimpoint and the SS. Of course as I lean toward the CompM4s the SWFA shows up on sale! But, But...
