R9 tuned by shootist

   In early November I started a thread titled ' need help with R9 ' .  A forum member named Lee ( shootist ) responded both publicly and later in PMs.  It didn't take me long to realize I really liked this guy.  I know this site is home to many good tunners both private and professional,  but it was Lee who responded to my problem with enthusiasm and tried to talk me through things that might be of help. In the end I decided to send my R9 to him for a checkup and tune.

  This turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made.  I am a newbie to spring guns but I did my research before buying one.  I loved my R9 the way it was but after about 1800 rounds something changed in the tone and shot cycle.  I thought this was just part of the break-in change.  Turned out to be a broken spring.  So I was expecting a noticeable change in the way it shot and felt.  My imagination didn't come close to what I actually received.  The first time I broke the barrel my jaw literally dropped!  It was sooo smoooth and the lockup was a solid, no nonsense click.  The trigger I had thought had been good was now, in a word, perfect!  Set by Lee to have a short first stage and a very light and crisp second stage, it is as good of a trigger as I have ever felt.  I thought the shot cycle was good before, well not compared to what it is now.  It is short and sweet but most of all, it is quiet.

  All and all I can't believe just how much better this gun is.  I know this is old news to those of you who have had or done tunes before, as I have read as much.  But reading about it simply does not come close to conveying the feel.  I now not only have the R9 that has earned the reputation as one of the best all around guns out there but I have also added a new friend.   So if you are on the fence as to whether you should do or get a tune, go for it!  If you need to find someone you can trust to do a great job for you, I can give no better recommendation than Lee (shootist).

Some people slap a kit and grease,crank a few screws and call it a tune. I learned true tuners are artist and the tune will last thousands of rounds without need to be "freshened". Congrats on a great rifle.

There is NOTHING better than a sweetly tuned springer!!
When tuned like yours it will last and last! And get even smoother!!
Dropping in a kit does NOT a tuned rifle make!!
I have 4 high end springers.....all tuned by Motörhead. The shortest lifespan, spring wise, was 35,000 trouble free rounds. My 97 has over 45,000 down the chute and is still going strong.

Glad to hear the R9 is more than you'd hoped for...that's always a good thing, unfortunately in today's world it's becoming a rare thing.

   WOW!  That is a lot of shooting!  I don't shoot as much as I would like to, so it is possible,  I might be having a smile on my face for a very long time.

I only shoot 500 shots a weekend on a bench, now I have a bipod and plan to use it for a bit. I found that the bipod needs to rest closer to the end of the stock instead of near the trigger like bags.
