The serial number places date of manufacture in December, 1981. All information on the Crosman 1377 pistols states that the barrels are rifled, while my eyes tell me a different story! I see no rifling inside the well-lit barrel, where the barrel from my Crosman 2289 "Backpacker" is so clearly rifled.
What gives? Is the rifling so subtle that it can't be seen by the naked eye
? Has this pistol (a gift) been "Frankensteined?" Or was there a moment in time when the 1377 sliding breach was a smoothbore?
"American Classic" is written in large, Cursive script and the trigger is brass.
Any input on this would be appreciated!

Without seeing myself I would guess the barrel came from else where.

Too many BBs down the tube.
I Have heard that some were made as smoothbores for a few places where rifled barrel pistols were frowned upon.
(Michigan, Illinois, or Wisconsin maybe)

I've got a 1377 barrel that I got from a member here that is basically a smooth bore. It's been months since I've looked at it but as I remember there were three...somethings, not really lands or grooves, more like a different texture. They ran down the length or the bore and twisted but only maybe 1.5-2 times in the length of the barrels.
I'll have to dig it out again and take a look. I didn't think it could have been from BBs or anything like that at the time.
