Ruger/Umarex Muzzle Device Removal?

So I just purchased a Ruger Impact .22 and so far love everything except for the gaudy plastic muzzle device. I believe this is the same one used on the Ruger Yukon and maybe the Talon as well? Does anyone know if it can be removed? It has one set screw at the bottom but removing it didn't seem to do much.

That looks like the same Silence Air module that is on the Umarex Octane. I cut one off the end of the Octane barrel and had to completely destroy the unit getting it off. They are not made to come off easily, but it can be done if you don't mind the fact it can't be put back on.

I figured as much, thanks for the insight. To add insult to injury, whoever put it on at the factory glued it on off-center. I can't even zero the iron sights. If you don't mind, what kind of techniques or tools did you use to cut it off?

I've only had it for a few days, got it as a gift from the GF. It does NOT have the same safety as the Yukon but rather the same one as the Airhawk/XS25. Haven't opened it up yet so I can't guarantee if this hasthe TO5 copy. I'm guessing it's an XS25 in a Yukon stock but I could be wrong. Just from a few test shots I like it a LOT better than the Ruger Blackhawk I had. The gun torques when fired and has a bit of twang that will need to be ironed out. The Silence Air muzzle device works well but as I stated the worker assembling mine must have been tipsy on factory fumes.

You might have luck submerging the plastic end in very hot water for a minute or two. Then call Col. Steve Austin to wiggle it off.

If a gas ram can be installed it would be even better. I have to say I'm really liking where these chinese guns are headed. Now if only they could get the QC dialed in...

Owning a darn good shooting NVD in 22 I can't justify spending my funds on one.

I don't think they can be rammed...central tang in piston for cocking...take a peek in the cocking slot might be able to see the tang...if it's a side latch then will take ram...

Has anyone here had one apart yet?
I just got back from looking at one of these Impacts in person and it is not the same rifle that Walmart shows on their website. It is not a candidate for gas ram conversion as I had been posting before. The website photo is of a Yukon not the Impact.

Chris, I used a hacksaw on mine and had to make multiple cuts to find out how to get it off. I was able to save the baffles intact, but it could never be put back on the Octane.

The muzzle device was installed so that it has to be destroyed upon removal, it was designed that way to keep the lawyers happy. The mfr. didn't want any lawsuits .....

What does the barrel look like after removing the break/brake? That would be dissapointing to have some butt ugly barrel and not much to do about it.
Mike, have you had your talented hands on one of these yet? These don't seem to be selling very well. I wonder if it's because of the lower velocity advertised in the .22 version as compared to all the inflated .177 numbers

My manual says 800ish fps with lead pellets. That isn't bad for a 22 if the statement is true huh? If I understand correctly that's the same velocity you would expect from a rws 350 magnum 22?
When I first started shooting mine I could sometimes see the pellet fly down range if I held my head at a angle and watched for it. At 1400 rounds now I can't see it flying anymore . Definitely getting faster with time. I'm shooting gamo magnum pellets and it sends them down range with authority

Look for around 700 fps with real pellets
