Scuba Tank Question

Due to an inability to get 4500 psi fills for my Ninja tank, I am considering switching to a scuba tank.

I will be shooting a AF Talon, and plan 2500 fills.  I went to a dive shop to look things over.  He told me there was a 3000 psi and a 3300 psi tank.  He did not feel that I would get more refills from the 3300 tank, but the formula says differently.

Can anyone help me with their experiences?

I bought the Shoebox Max to fill my 4500 psi Ninja tank and it was the best investment ($650) to date for my PCPs.

It only takes about an hour to top off my 90ci bottle from 2000-2200 back up to 4500psi. 

I'm trying to save up for a larger CF tank that will get more fills on my guns.

the shoebox is great but don't forget to factor in
the small air compressor it needs and any adapters
,hoses and gauges you'll want/need.

Using a standard 88 cuft scuba tank at 3300psi, a 490 cc talon reservoir can be refilled from 1800psi to 2500psi about 26 times.
Using the same tank at 3000psi, a talon reservoir can be refilled to that spec from about 18 times.

....been looking at the Shoebox. The off-the-shelf model is $700.00 If you want the $650 model, you'll wait an additional five days for one without a fan (a $50.00"option"). The recommended oil-free compressor is $200.00, You'll need a desiccant/dryer/moisture trap, and the Shoebox people say "The bigger the better," so I'm guessing it will cost at least $50.00, plus $10.00 for the low pressure connecting hardware. A $10.00 Harbor Freight hose should suffice to connect the oil-free compressor to the Shoebox input, and whatever airgun fill rig is in current use should suffice to connect the Shoebox to a tank. If all of this is correct, the total (including shipping insurance and notifications but without options, spare parts, or actual shipping charges) comes to just under $1000. This is actually a great deal compared to other "low cost" options on the market.

Here's a possible solution to getting your tanks filled to 4500 psi without going through a dive shop. If your local fire departments don't fill their SCBA tanks in-house (and can't or won't fill yours), they likely have a contractor with a mobile fill unit. If that's the case you'll likely be able find a mutually convenient time and location for regular fills. In my area, Fischer Scientific has the contract.

To answer the original post, yes the 3300 will give you more fills.  Just make sure the shop gives you a full 3300 fill.  Ask them to fill it to 3300.   I have a shop that filled my 3300 to 2900 and he said that is normal after the tank cools down.  My regular fill shop sends me out the door with a 3300psi fill with an already cooled tank.   Some shops are lazy and cheap.  They need to either top off the tank once the tank has cooled down, or keep the tank cool when filling.

Buy two scuba tanks and cascade fill, that's what I did and got twice or more fills than using a single scuba tank!

Of course you get 2x the number of fills,,, you have 2 tanks.

I have a 3300 PSI 100 CF Tank and yes you will get a lot more fills at 3300 than 3000 PSI. My tank is also safe for a 10% Over fill so I can go to 3600 PSI, but thats only with a tank that is specified that can go that high from the manufacture.

I fill up my Mrod and Disco as well as my Sam Yang to 3000 PSI and shoot a lot.
