I want one so I can use it to fill my 88 cf 4500 carbon fiber tank. I was planning on waiting till the tank got down to 3000 and using the shoe box to air it back up to 4500.

Does Lowes and Home Depot carry inline moisture filters that can be installed and if so are they easy to install ? Thanks.

Yeah, I keep meaning to get on the list for one. I could really use one. However, I can get my tanks filled for six bucks at my local dive shop (5 minutes from home).

I got my comoressor, posted some infor on YF, my compressor fills on average about 450 psi per hour. So. For exampke the data that i have is to fill a 44 cu ft scba tank from 3000psi to 4500 psi took me 3.2 hours. Not bad at all. I used a dessicant type moisture extracter on my setup. Will post pics if anyone interested.

Jeff, one recommendation for you once you get the Shoebox compressor is to slightly modify the moisture filter you intend to put between the first stage compressor and the Shoebox by unscrewing the bowl and discarding the crummy umbrella plastic drain inside the bowl, screw the bowl back on, then use a valve stem tool to put a schrader valve stem up through the bottom.
Makes it considerably easier to drain it on the fly.
I used to install those filters all the time through the course of my job, and that one little trick worked perfectly.

Here is my Shoe Box setup filling a 44 cu ft 4500 psi tank.
Note as previously stated in this thread is that it was noted that the moisture filter should be actually farther away from the primary first stage pump and closer to the shoebox as to allow the air to cool and condense prior to getting to the moisture trap with the desiccant.

desiccants turn red when filled with moisture.

I received my 4500psi Shoebox last week and had bought a 30 min SCBA tank from twohsieh as well (thanks again). I intended to get a Maruader .177 tuned to 20fp from MAC1 but Tim is busy and has a 4-6 week backlog. Found a nice Evanix renagade monday on the YC and it arrived Wed.... So that leaves the interface to the tank/rifle from Joe, he said it shipped today, as I'm in east county San Diego I could be operational tommorow... crossing fingers

The Evanix is neat, very compact solid feel just tighter in general than my thumbhole stocked QB78 carbine from archer.

@longislandhunter, I foresee a long wait, too. I just hope there are some CF 4500 psi bottles to be had, when it arrives.

Been limiting my shooting of the PCPs, lately, for all the pumping. Was pumping every day, now down to a few times a week.

Riderbike go ahead and get the tank and fill setup then when you number comes up you will be ready to go. I got on the list back when they first started to sell and was way down on the list. Next thing I knew my number was up and I didn't have anything but the compressor. Here I have a neat new toy and no way to play with it.Took a couple of weeks more to get set up to put it to work. Can you picture what I was going through? Kind of like a little kid that needs to go potty.

Gary is right, start now to accumulate your related gear and you can save some money. My last missing piece to do a refill was the high pressure gage/hose set up from Joe and I saved $10 off his regular price with his current sale. They seem to be accelerating the shipments on the shoebox. While I don't know what competitors to the shoebox may appear later, its a reasonably priced solution for now.

@twohsieh, ya! Already there! Picked-up a pancake compressor from HF, hose, fittings, dessicant container to continue to pump indoors, when the shoebox arrives.

Yup, I'm dead. There was no room in the Inn to put my huge compressor indoors, so have a nice trunk already slated for the air/accessories.

Will be expecting the package, thanks!

Gene I posted about it last winter. It was the “Flame Thrower”.

Pro Tec Air is were I bought it. It only goes to 3200 psi. Just short of $2000. It works just fine for me.

I have a question, or two:

If a desiccant moisture trap mounted directly on the shoebox is used, should it be the highest point of the air system (shoebox elevated above first stage compressor) to keep condensed moisture from the coiled hose from running directly into it?

After use, could the hose then be purged of excess water?

It seems the bowl type trap would have water run directly into it from the hose, with the trap mounted near the shobox? Since it may be drained, does it even matter?

I'm just trying to figure-out the best way to keep moisture away from the desiccant cartridge, without overloading its capacity too quickly?

Am I all wet?

This might be off-topic, but has anyone ever heard of an SCBA CF tank letting go under normal conditions of wear-n-tear, not from the antics of Darwinian clowns?

I haven't seen any reports from a quick search on a few engines...this might be a good thing!
