replacing stretchy bands for scope covers

I have a number of the scope end-piece covers that are connected by the stretchy cords that hold them tight to the scope. Over time these cords have become weak and stretched out so that they do not hold the covers on any longer. Has anyone found a fitting replacement for these cords? They would be easily replaced if the stretchy material could be found.

Hmmm, actually that looks like a good option and there's enough there to spare to put on a friend's fishing pole just to watch him try to land a fish!!! LOL! How about it DEz, ever try stretchy cord on a 5lb bass? Where's the camera?
Seriously, I hadn't even thought to try Walmart or maybe a fabrics store. I guess I was overthinking it.

Most hobby shops also have elastic cord, in much shorter lengths.

Joe, all I had at the time was some cotton string. I like it so much, I think I will not change it. Focus on the scope, please.
And remind me not to go fishing with you. LOL

If you have an Amazon Prime membership, they have a few types of elastic cord in the $5 - $10 range either with free shipping or as an add-on item (free shipping for orders over $25).
Some examples:
1/16" dia.
2mm dia.
1/8" dia.
If the mounting ears on the scope covers have enough meat to be drilled out slightly, I would be inclined to try the larger 2mm or 1/8" diameter stuff to see if it would be more durable.

Thanks guys, lots of great ideas floated. It just dawned on me that we have a new Joanne's Fabrics that just opened in town. Let me see if I can get a few minutes to slip in tomorrow and see what they have. Now if I can just get in there and get out again without losing my "manly-man" card I will be happy!
Update tomorrow, hopefully.

Joe, may I suggest a disguise? Something like this guy - one of our local comedians.

Oh me, I need a double shot of testosterone or at least someone hand me a dirt clod to eat!! Not really paying any attention to my surroundings, I drove up to the JoAnnes Fabric store that just recently opened here thinking I could slip in and get a small amount of stretchy or elastic cord for my scope covers. I guess the big "Grand Opening" sign and the well-lit music van from the local radio station did not register because I just sauntered big as life right up into the biggest estrogen circus I believe I have ever witnessed. Guys, imagine a locker-room filled with sweaty women . . . no, on second thought don't imagine that! Just imagine the ambiance of walking into a shopping joint filled with over-wrought women chasing the next 25% off rack!
I survived somehow and finally walked out with a 10$ roll of elastic cord that should fill the needs of every airgunner on the GTA. So, if you need some elastic cord or what's better known as strectchy string, just drop me a PM and I will be happy to send you enough for a half-dozen scopes!! LOL!
I guess the funniest part was the cashier lady who looked way up at me and said something to the effect, "I guess you wouldn't want to join JoAnne's saver's club?"
"No Ma'am, I wouldn't!!!"

If you have a dollar store somewhere nearby they sell cargo nets made out of the stuff. More than you'll ever use in a lifetime for a buck!

I know I'm late to the party on this one, however, I have found that the small 3/16" diameter bungees about 10" long work really well. The small hooks fit in the covers and they are really secure.
