Broke The Ice

First squirrel with pellet rifle. I've been hunting them in the National Forest behind house for several mornings and finally got one this morning. Had to chase him a long way as he didn't really won't to be in a tree and keep jumping to the ground, running to another tree and jumping out again. HW95Luxus did the trick with Crosman 14 gr. round-nose pellets.
I wasn't really squirrel hunting, but was scouting for deer and putting out 3 game cameras when I saw him coming down out of a tree and the chase was on.

Also just wondering etown Kentucky?
I'm in Pounds Hollow area..bout 10 miles from etown, just walk out the door into Shawnee National Forest.
This squirrel hunt'n is nothing like what I'm used to in Ga., Fl., S.C. flatlands. Trees are a lot taller around here and squirrels much harder to come by.

Got another one this morning. Same gun and pellets. Didn't take any pictures. I've got a fix power scope on the gun and the squirrel was not dead when it hit the ground. Bad thing about fixed power and trying to hit something real close is it's blurry. Too many holes for a good picture.

Another one for the pot this morning. That HW95Luxus don't play. Switched to JBS 15.89 Domed. Also I'm going to buy a little HW30S in a couple wks for taking with me while deer hunting with bow and hang it in the tree. I'm always having squirrels all around when deer hunting and can't shoot with broadheads due to big rocks and boulders in the ground.
I've pretty much decided on .22cal. since I won't be shooting farther than 25yds and 90% 5 to 10yds.

Yes it does Bicycleman. The other morning they were all in the trees above me. Must have been at least 20 to 25. Problem was they wouldn't stop and when they would pause for just a second the foliage is so bad by the time you picked them up in the scope, they were on the way again. Eating pig nuts and you can't hardly find them after a get one and start gnawing on it. You can see the shavings dropping down and still can't hardly find it.
Soon as they finish one which takes a while..it's almost a full run to get another. You can't dally around settling in and squeezing real slow when they pause a second. Have to get on him and shoot quick or it's gone.
I did lose one that morning, had him marked where it fell but couldn't find later on. They didn't even pay any attention to the shots and that HW95L is not all that quiet.
White Oak acorns are everywhere now, ground is covered in some spots after a little wind yesterday...maybe they'll start on them a little more and be a little slower.
