Any One Make Their Own Muzzle Brake?

I have been thinking.... with a full service machine shop, Why dont I make my own stuff when things are slow. Im not a machinist, but I am surround by them. I know my way around the shop. Im actually in the Thinfilm Optical coating side of the Biz. I have some questions about muzzle brakes and the cones that go inside of them as I have Google on the net. and the hole size for .22 and .25
I am starting one today just to see how long it would take me.

Keep in mind that if it can be made to work with hot gases on the "other kind" of projectile launcher - the regulatory bureau for that kind of projectile launcher will consider that it falls under their jurisdiction.  It matters not ONE WHIT that your only intention is to use it with non-fire related projectile launchers.  And they require you file for a permit to manufacture and a tax stamp for each one.  In other words, keep it limited to more perishable types of components.  Delrin seems to be a favorite with many of the folks who play with them.

Why not. If you have a lathe and mill you can do just about anything. For years I made and sold muzzle breaks/pickels for springers. Made enough money doing it to buy a bigger and nicer lathe and mill. You can even make nice shrouds as well with your lathe.

Yup. PVC pipe with holes wrapped in toilet paper and put in a Fiber glass tube about six inches long. Makes a heck of a difference.

You don't need much tooling either. I made a rather nice and very effective shroud with bench drill and some creative thinking.

This is a dangerous path...........  It leads to bigger and more sophisticated equipment which needs to be feed with jobs for others and before you realize, you have no more time to make the parts you wanted in the first place.   A vicious circle LOL.  Don't say I didn't warn you!

Great topic... the barrel mounting is really the only tricky part and most just accomplish this via the "threaded cone-with 3-slots for set screws" method

I say go for it and post as much as possible - it's great to collaborate.
