I found GTA from doing web searching for info about air rifles. I've been hunting and shooting bow & arrow, black powder rifles, rifles and shotguns for more than 45 years and had just a little experience with air rifles. My air rifle experience was limited to a daisy lever action BB gun from my childhood and a Crossman 760 pump. My new found interest in air rifles was spurred due to a visit to my parents place. My father had recently purchased a Remington Vantage pellet gun which I had to spend some time shooting. The Red Squirrels and Chipmunks are a real pest problem for them and after a little target practice, I tried my hand at taking the Reds. I found my success to be very rewarding and decided to look into purchasing an air rifle for myself. This is where my Internet search for air rifle info began. So far, I think I've learned a few things but am open to being corrected. Since I want to be able to cleanly take Fox Squirrels and rabbits as well as target shoot, I'm inclined to think I need to look at .22 cal. rifles. My budget would prefer to keep my air rifle purchase under $300, provided that I can get a long lasting quality rifle in that price range. I'm in the very early research stages of rifle selection, but so far the RWS Diana 34 appears to have promise. I would be very interested to hear about other suggestions or to hear opinions about the 34. If I really should increase my budget in order to get the quality I'm seeking, please advise. I'm only planning to get 1 air rifle, not a collection so I'd rather purchase my hunting rifle wisely the first time.

Welcome to the GTA. For your price point, you are on the right track with the model 34. Hard gun to beat. It's more than apt for the tasks you mentioned.
