Looking for a hunting Rifle.

Hello as the title says. I'm looking for a hunting rifle. My price Range is to 300.00. I have read a lot of post from multiple sites. I just don't know what would be the best bang for my buck. I want either a .22 or .25 caliber. I have had a few rifles but none of them I kept. I would put a tin threw one and I would see or read somewhere that this rifle is better and buy that one. Well I want to buy and keep one, but like I said I would like your opinions on what is good hunting rifle. I will also target shoot with it but it's gonna be my hunting rifle foremost.

My advice is save up another 100-150 bucks and go with a 25 cal sumatra from pyramid air  they have great deals on refurbs i just bought one with 6 tins of pellets shipped to my door for 580 dollars and i cant even tell its a re furb good luck on your hunt

No matter how good the Sumatra is, it would require a method of filling it, which means buying a bottle or pump -- gets pricey quick.

If you choose to go with the spring or gas ram powerplant, I suggest reviewing the Hatsan line of rifles in your price range. They will give you nice power and accuracy (after practice with the artillery hold) that makes them sensible for hunting. I've also heard the integral muzzle break on the models 85 and 125 sniper make the guns very quiet for the amount of power they put out.

Got just the gun for you which is on sale today.

  I have had mine for 8 months. It is .25 cal. Shoots 19.1 H&N pellets (affordable for .25)
And since it uses a Nitro Piston you can keep a pellet in cocked gun with safety on. Once you breack it in and you learn the gun you can take prey out to 75 yards. 25fpe, so I am not a hunter but, ask someone  what critters you can hunt  with that power rating. Averages 750 fps with .25. Mine will group 1" @ 30 yards.

Hatsan uses for their .25 break barrels. So you can afford 3 tins and then P.A. gives you a 4th tin free.

The scope that comes with the gun is plastic lenses and will get you by but nothing more.

Here is mine which is $40 more with Thumb Hole stock. If you like it.  Then you will have to use plastic scope until you save up a few more bucks for new scope.

+1 but there are two .22 pcps he could afford the cheaper being FDPCP(Flying Dragon pcp)$305

with pump both are great guns and are usually very accurate
and as they are pcps don't have the hold sensitivity a springer does however you do have to pump them
up every 10-25 shots depending on power tune.I own the disco(discovery) which runs on 2000psi
I find pretty easy to pump and the FDPCP is even easier as it only runs on 1500psi.

There's a .177 R1 in the AA classifieds for sale. The asking price is $400. That's a dang good deal for this gun and vintage (San Raphael)   From the description and  velocity given, it probably needs a new seal and spring. Springs and seals are consumables anyways. Not a bad investment at all. Comes with rear sight plate and a Beeman uni MB. A scope gun at the moment, but old irons come up for sale every once in a while if one wanted to open sight it.

Diana 34P. Plenty of power for small game at "normal" air gun range. Plenty of parts available. Synthetic stock won't scratch or dent as easily as wood.

As some of the other guys have mentioned.  The .177 is a very good hunter, and accurate.  Accuracy is Trump.   If you hunt , you will most likely be shooting at 60yds or less.  A good 12fpe rifle that's accurate is a good, tame shooting, and quiet tool.  The Gamo "CFR" is a very accurate rifle and good quality.  Easy to master and shoot/hunt.  Accuracy is trump. 12fpe is plenty.
Don't believe that the .177 isn't a good choice to put small game in the pot. It's the way a lot of our brothers in European countries have to do it, by laws...without buying expensive licenses for airguns over 12 fpe.  They do it quite well! And enjoy their hunts.

I'm probably not the one to chime in on expertise, but since I've been shooting the hatsan 135, I can't put it down. It's a.22 with a 50 lb+ cocking effort, and gets nearly 30 fpe ! And as I say to the nutters I hunt " it'll take your head clean off"  lol...

   We don't have any squirrels, our yard is full of snake chasers and squirrel killers,  (feral cats.)
But I have over 25 opossums and 4 coons., I put out extra cat food and swat'em with a  5 ft/caliber broom.

Sorry couldn't resist, we live in the wilds of Central Florida, you can catch those things with a fish net. I trap em and relocate em to save on cat food.

That's for the reply guys. I like the Hatsan. That's one I have been looking at. I am hunting mostly squirrel but if the opportunity arose I would like to hunt coon and what not.

The Umarex Octane is another rifle to consider. Gas Ram powered, accurate, and well below your $300 price point leaving money for that scope upgrade also.
