So I am am R1 guy. However I find myself admiring the HW98 stock.
So if we set stock differences aside, which rifle powerplant would you fellas choose?
I could easily add these mods to my current R1 stock.

I don't think it would fit.
If I had to choose between the two rifles, I'd take the 98 for the accuracy.

I have a 98 in 177 and it would take 10 pages for me to list how unbelievably accurate, consistent, smooth, well built, powerful and fun this rifle is!
She is just as accurate as ANY high end fixed barrel gun out there!
Just an all around amazing rifle!
Never fired an R1, so I can't compare the 2.
Mine has a Vortek PG2 kit in it and I got well over 25,000 rounds without a single hiccup!!
Wrote to HW to rave about a break barrel being this accurate and the man himself answered me.....sent me a hat too!!
I am a fan!!

My thought is that the 98 stock has features I want for my R1.
So can the 98 stock be made to fit the R1?

I am unsure if it can be MADE to fit by modification, but as a straight drop in stock swap, NO it will not work.
The R1 receiver is larger than the R9 or HW98 receiver, and the mounting screw locations are spaced differently.

Then the answer might be in trying to get the stock hardware for a 98 and install it in an R1 scock.

I think that's your only option. Buy the adjustable comb kit from Brownells, and either get a Bisley or Morgan adjustable recoil pad kit and size it to the R1, or make your own out of aluminum stock using your oem pad. I made this one for my TX using 3 aluminum plates (it adds 5/8" to LOP which works for me, but if you have the ability/tools to mill a groove for the nut to slide in you can delete one of the plates):

I guess that and a Terry Cross logger kit to create an adjustable comb would work

The Loggerhead system might work, although I've only seen it installed in composites and the occasional laminated stock. But if it'll work with a laminated stock I don't see any reason it wouldn't work in a non-laminated wood stock.
Great idea...it's a top-notch product priced very reasonably. Can't wait to see your end results!!

I had a logger head installed in my FN SPR rifle. Straight up sexxy!
I think these are worth while upgrades.
