I see a lot of ads for refurbished airguns(I read one here yesterday from Crosman). I have considered ordering a refurbished gun a few times, but have concerns.
Is it better to bite the bullet, so to speak, and buy new , or are refurbished airguns, by reputable companies a good deal..

I will answer anyways. Some people have great experience with refurbs, some don't. I do not have much luck so I will stick with new or buy here on the classifieds. If you by used ask what the magic pellet it. If they reply it is pellet picky, or I don't know it is time to keep looking. JMHO

Factory refurbished generally come with a factory warranty.
And one important thing to remember. Not ALL items being sold as refurbished ever had any defects or issues in the first place. If an item is sold that the package did not contain everything that was supposed to have shipped with, they get returned. It may have been simply an owner's manual missing. But these returns cannot be sold as new. Personally I'd buy refurbs all day.

If there is an issues with a factory refurbished, just return it for another.

I just bought a refurbished sumatra from pyramid air as far as i can tell its a brand new rifle I've always had good luck with refurbished guns from them

Above is great advice that I live by. Buy from a trusted company that does returns new or refurbished.

I always buy refurbs. Most of my air guns are refurbs as my TV, computers, etc.

It's not only true, what ezman604 said, but a LOT of times, a refurb product will have " global" issue's of said product addressed already..... This especially true in the case of certain electronics.... Especially LCD's...( I am an engineer for a large electronics firm)....

In 2012, Christmas, my son bought me a Crosman 357/6. I shot 1 cart through it and put it away for a while. Put cart #2 in, shot about 1/2 of it, put it away. The next day got it out to shoot and all of the gas had leaked out. Put it away. Got it out about 2mo later, install cart #3 and PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST. the whole cart emptied. Last mounth I bought a Vigilante refurbished from AGD for $39.78 shipped. I have 6 carts through it so far and still going strong. My 30 day warranty is up today. Might just have to get it out later and put another cart through it. YES! Refurb is the way to go. IMO.

Many refurbs are just returns that someone bought and have returned because they didn't like it or just wanted to try it out...out of all the rifles I tested for the return department at PA only 3 or 4 out of a hundred had an actual problem that needed to be attended too....

Hey Yak,

I bought a refurb from Rick Eutsler last Sunday. (Airgunproshop.com) I got to say, Rick is a GREAT GUY to work with.
I left him a message and he called me back as he was going thru a fast food drive in buying his family supper.

His words to me were: All the refurbs he sells are 30 day returns from P.A. or Air Gun Depot.
He went on to say that people get a big Hatsan PCP and realize how loud it was or that it was to hard to pump and so on.
He also said that any guns with dents and scrapes Hatsan tears down for parts. They only send out like new guns with the same stuff that their PCPs come with new. HATSAN GIVES 90 DAY WARRANTY AND about a $200 discount on the BT65 Elite. The Elite was their top of the line before the Galation. Be advised, the Elite is being dropped and not going to get the QE "quiet energy" as I understand.

I had one other gun at Hatsan warranty in Arksnsas. I had a request in for a new front red Truglo for another gun.

RICK CALLED HATSAN: they had my warranty gun shipped out in 2 days days
they sent the Truglo filiment for other gun also.

I will know exactly what my refurb gun is like hopefully tomorrow.

Well, I have mine now. •••It had the original stock and plastic case. Both very good condition. ◇◇◇◇The action, barrel, trigger, clips, and sling were "brand new" ◆◆◆◆Hatsan threw in a free clip and a free tin of .25 pellets.◆◆◆◆

☆☆☆☆☆☆$486.00; for a BT65 Elite, how could I not be happy? ★★★★★★

I also have a refurb Hatsan, the at44,now its about 2 months since i got it and it is still like new. I would always buy refurbs and if it was a warranty I don't see why not buying it.

YAK, What Mike (mikeiniowa) posted, bears a lot of the truth surrounding "refurbished rifles". They get returned for various reasons. I'd like to see the ratio that Mike saw that were perfectly fine...but were "Magnum" power breakbarrel rifles, in a "Lightweight" format. Tough combination for the new shooter, for sure

I'll add that when you buy low priced guns, don't get your expectations too high. There are a few good ones, but few....
There's a reason that they only cost $150.00 new. A $300.00 breakbarrel air rifle is a big difference. Just like everything in this world...

What is a "LOT". I have seen times in my life where $20 was a lot of money, and other times in my life where I just gave away $200 for a person in need. So a "LOT" can be different things to different people at different times in their lives.

Right now $60 is a lot, that is why I am considering a refurbished R9.

When I'm fortunate enough to get any Refurbs from Crosman I list them on the GTA. The last batch of Disco Refurbs sold for $175 shipped. Each one receives a 24 hour pressure test and once the test is complete it gets shot over my Chrony. A complete shot string with the Chrony Printout is included with the gun.

If any fail the pressure test they get taken apart and new O rings are installed and tested again. Being an Authorized Crosman Service Center makes it so that the 30 day Crosman Refurb warrantee is not voided.

If any do not do as expected over the Chrony I find the problem and fix it.

Scratches, nicks or any other appearance issues are shipped as is.

It's a gamble but if you buy from someone like PA it should be safe. I know a guy that bought a RWS34 from PA and it was a spectacular example if that rifle. One day it was super windy (I mean really windy) and he called me and said his gun was messed up. I went to his aid and explained to him it was all wind. The next morning he returned it back to PA because his 30 days was not up. I wish I would have known as I would have bought it. Somebody got a darn good shooting rifle. So you never know.

Ok to put the Hatsan BT65 in purspective. P.A. sells it for $669.99, I paid $485.×× and .99 cents shipping,
I received the plastic case, the sling, the air prop, allen L keys, the key to raise the comb and slide out the rear butt end the butt plate, 3 clips plus a extra clip so total of 4 clips and a free tin of Hatsan pellets. 19.1g 200ct. According to the color of the tape on the tin of pellets they are made by H&N,.oh and a sling.(according to Rick Eustler airgunproshop.com, all Hatsans
Refurbs are 30 day peroid returns from ? P.A or Air Gun Depot. All scratched and dents are torn down for parts. My plastic case has a very slight worn spot, but the gun had what looked like a new clip breech that had never had a clip thru it. Spotless.

If big problem, Rick will jump in and ship the gun To him and he makes it right,

Yes buddy I am sorry, I did buy the last one, but IF I were you wait for a .25cal or .22 Galation it is a much more refined rifle and well worth the extra dough.

Keep an eye on Air gun depot.Look deep for them as I saw a .22 last week.
I bought a .25 Galation for $699.99 and got 3 clips, a trigger lock, all the extra seals, prob, allen L , a sling, an air stripper, an extra air ank 255cc ($169 ) and a case. That was a heck of a buy.
I added 4 extra clips which hold 13 .25 pellets.

So I now own 4**** 255cc tanks, like having a1020cc tank, 8 .22 clips 10 round with a 230cc tank, 7 clips .25holding 13 round each and 7*** .25 clips that hold 9... .25 rounds.

So I can get away from my two 80cf tanks and still have a pretty long day of shooting in the woods
