cutting a tap

Can you use a dremmel with a cut off wheel and cut the bottom 1/4" off of a tap (specifically either a 8-32 or a 10-32) and kinda make a bottom tap? Yeah, I know I could just buy one, but I'm cheap and that would require patience.
Briefly the reason. I stripped out the front screw that holds the trigger group on my 2289. I'll have to go up a size (from the 8-32) to a 10-32 (I think) and I would like to have ALL the threads engage, not just half, hence the bottom tap.

You sure can grind it down. Just be sure not to overheat it.

If you turn it into a bottoming tap be advised it may be very difficult to start tapping in any new hole in the future.

I was planning on modifying a second tap. Use a normal one to start, modified one to finish.

cut 2 taps..
cut half the taper off one and go whole hog on the other...
add an uncut tap and you'll have a full set..through cutting, plug taper and bottoming
use em in that order to get the easiest starting for the bottoming as the through cut taper is long enough that you may not be at full thread cut when you switch to the bottoming tool...

Just discovered that fastenal sells bottom taps relatively cheap. And the one by me has them in 8-32 and 10-32 on display.
