After missing a couple easy shots at these 2 diggers after plucking the first one about a month ago in the fire pit, they got smart and were holding to the empty lot next door which has plenty of cover as it only gets mowed a couple times a season. One decided to venture in last week and I caught him for an easy 5 yard plink from the small deck. But the 3rd one had remained evasive and would only show him self briefly from a distance. While drinking my coffee this morning on the porch, I saw him popping up in the tall grass about 15 feet behind our garden... so I grabbed the Vermi, propped open the door and just waited for the next sighting.

Using the door frame to steady myself, I held over one reticle for the distance and made a great shot. It sounded like a hit based on the pronounced "thud" and quick walk into the field revealed a perfect shot. And to my surprise, it walked off ~35-40 yards. Man, do I love this gun!!

Now the waiting game begins for a new batch as I think that was the last of the current resident diggers... But based on activities in several other neighboring lots, it is only a matter of time before more come into shooting range.

Added 2 more to the tally after an adolescent decided to hone his digging skills about 10 ft off our deck a couple days ago... followed by his big brother getting caught heading across the yard last night. The latter of which was another nice shot from ~30 yards. I can't say enough good things about this FX as its accuracy is simply amazing.

And they keep coming as I dropped number 6 and 7 after they decided to dance around our retaining wall while I was eating lunch. Saw number 8 in the front yard, but he got a reprieve as I could not get a safe shot.

Man, do I like working at home on Friday's as the yard was alive with activity today. After seeing several scatter earlier in the morning when I went outside for a stretch, I found one digging ~10 yards off the deck and he was quickly dispatched. And while heading through the garage to grab a removal tool, another one popped up in front of the garage. I had removed the screen earlier from one of the garage windows and it made for a nice stealthy kill.

So, #9 and counting!! And from the looks of the other ones scattering this morning, I have quite a few more potential targets.

After taking 2 more yesterday at ~40 yards, I think our yard is free of diggers for a while as the normal activity is non-existent this morning. The timing is perfect as several of my wife's veggies in the garden will be ripening within the next couple weeks and these guys loved to take sample bites.

Made it an even dozen today after finding this one digging a new hole in the mulch. But as expected, the yard and surrounding areas are pretty quiet these days

After a couple weeks of limited activity, the official count after a 45 yard shot today is 15. Got lucky with this one though as I did not hold over enough and it hit mid-body...

Hey your Chippers have spots!!!

Looks like a cross between a chipmunk and a ground squirrel.

They look allot different than the Chipmunks here in Central New York.
