beeman p1 hw45 trigger problems

So I have this 1985 san rafial Beeman p1. I doubt it has ever been apart in 30 years. Now it is having some trigger problems. The trigger will not shoot on the low power setting. The high power setting is starting to fail as well. If you press the trigger either it will not go off or worse yet, there will be a delay with a shot unpredictably late.

So now I am seeking disassembly instructions. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx MikieG

My HW45 is less than 2 years old.  I discovered that if I don't cock the arm with enough force something inside doesn't seem to engage.  Then if I pull the trigger again it shoots.  I stopped using the low power setting because the point of impact was so far different you couldn't hit anything.  Try that and see if it helps.

I shot on the high setting only. But lately it has been acting funny there too. There has been a delay after pulling the trigger. Some times 2 seconds!

Since your pistol is 30 years old, I wonder if the original lubes have turned to gunk - thick gel - causing the
parts not to move as they should. I read on another forum that HW over lubes their airguns because they
don't know how long the guns will sit on a dealer's shelf before being sold. So there may be lots of old
lube causing problems. I would be interested to hear what you discover after you take it down and inspect things.

Teardown revealed no worn parts or any dried up grease or lube. This is quite puzzling. I am awaiting a reply from Hans to  see what he thinks.

Hans has opted for the predispositional reply of "cant trouble shoot from this far. Please send to pyramid air". I have read some posts on yellow about them being hacks and damaging fasteners and using metal vise jaws ect. This gun comes to me from a very dear friend who bought it new in 85. I am very hesitant to ship it to anyone. I just need some direction to try to get the ole girl straightened out.

Hmmmm... If it's not old / too much lube and no metal parts are galling, about the only other things I can think of are maybe the
piston seal is failing due to age and causing the piston to hang. Or, there could be lack of lube on the edge of the piston seal.
A little moly around the edge of the seal may loosen things up. Another thought is that the spring may be starting to get weak
and a combination of the seal causing some drag and a weak spring might cause what you are experiencing. I agree with you not
wanting to ship if off for service.

Here is a link to an outfit that carries spare parts. I have not dealt with them but I've read positive comments about them. If you
decide to go this route I would call them to make sure they have the parts in stock.

Looks like a new spring is ~$18.00 and a seal is ~$12.00.

These folks are just great! I just used them on 2 R1 rebuilds I recently did. And I got a .22 barrel for my .177. I am still needing a new cocking plate and rivet as well as a new safety spring. Maybe I should consider a new spring and seal. I am guessing this lil bugger wont be as easy as the R1.

Hey K you da man! I looked at your links. I tore back into the P1. After another inspection of the long trigger bar sear assembly , I decided to have a look at the piston where the sear hook grabs it.
Again. No signs of wear or anything. I did notice the spring was a bit dry. So I decided to give the ole girl some molly lube as I reassemble it. Seals all looked fine. The spring had about 3 inches of preload! Oh boy. It was all there. Two man job gettin the thing repinned. Really made the R1 look like toy for ease of rebuild.
Any way. When I tested it something surprising happened. It worked on both power settings.  Tomorrow I plan to chrono.

Great News! Glad to hear that you have it back operating normally. I did a fair amount of research on the HW45 / P1 recently
and bookmarked some of the links with pertinent information. I've not had one apart but read that the spring can be a bit
challenging to deal with. Glad the info was useful and thanks for posting your outcome with it.

Compressing the main spring can be done by hand. There is a steel nubbin on the rear of the powerplant that pokes into your hand pretty bad. Must use a glove. But the clamp was only needed to keep stuff from flying out once the pin is out. Reassembly can be done without a clamp.
