R-7 update

     She's home, shot about 150 pellets through it, is as accurate if not maybe a little more than before. their chrono. shows 602 av. with 8.18 gr. pellets. When I talked to the smith on phone he said they got 300 ft. per. sec. main spring was completely mangled, he said they replaced it with a after market kit from a well known guy that most of you guys use to tune your HWs, plus a special grease that dampens vibrations and makes for smoother firing cycle. I get the sheet back with repairs see no mention of the after market kit, looks like all HW parts? Who do I believe? as for the small hole they said it was a surface blemish that had possible bluing salts causing it bubble up on surface, they wiped it down with Ballistol. In two days of shooting I see no bubble over hole. So far so good. Now the down side all three stock screws are marred up wrong sized screw driver? The square block that locks in to air cylinder looks like it was locked in a metal vice, both edges on top have burs on them with about 2" of bluing peeled off the sharp edge. So now a question I am so new to this air rifle shooting. When I got the R-7 I didn't think there could be any thing better than it for punching paper in basement and back yard plinking, couldn't shoot the R-7 all winter but shot a ton of pellets through my CMP  853. So when I shot the R-7 when it returned swore I was shooting a 300 mag. ver. a 223! So whats my next step in air rifles. I don't hunt so don't need power, just like to punch paper and shoot small targets in back yard. What would shoot like the 853? PCP? Shot 3 times today between rain showers, lucky to make it to rifle range once or twice a week! cant believe I wasn't into these things years ago, would have saved me a ton of cash. Thanks deathray

Take a look at FWB 601/602/603 10 meter rifles. Quiet, zero recoil, SSP 1 pump. As accurate as the current Olympic 10 meter PCP's. You'll never want for more. A joy to own and world class in every way.

IMHO, you already own the gold standard airgun in the R7 for that type of shooting.

Try the JSB 7.3. More speed than the 8gr and stupid accurate.

Not sure if I missed something, and not to try and make waves, but!!! If the rifle was purchased new and sent back for those repairs and came back in that shape I would ask for a new one. Sounds like they mangled a real sweet rifle.
Also....another vote for the JSB or Air Arms 7.3 domes. The best light pellet I've tried!

I agree with Joe. If you sent it to an airgun smith and it came back with mangled screws and vise marks on it, I would want him to replace the gun. I don't see how this guy can stay in business if he can't even take out a screw and replace it without damaging them. Maybe you should let us know who this is so no other members have the same thing happen to them. I would definitely call and let him know you are not happy with the results of his handling your gun.

Since you haven't mentioned the "Smith" I guess this is a real Who Dunnit.
IMHO --I don't think sending it back will net you any greater results unless he's agreed to replace the gun .after all ,he was supposed to know how too handle an AG in the first place.
The screws you can get from Air Venturi ...explain what happened and I'll bet they won't even charge you for the screws.
as for the rest ...?

Best pellet, so far, in my R7 is the Air Falcon 7.3 gr.

      Bought the gun new almost four years ago, have close to 4000 pellets through it before spring let loose, sent it in for repair, like I said its shooting great JSB 7.87 one ragged hole 10 meters, cover them with a dime easy 20 yds, this is with new spring and about 100 pellets through it so far. As for screws and bluing damage there not mangled just dinged up, not the end of the world problems, just something you don't like to see. As for getting into a p-----g match with them it wouldn't be worth it who can prove if they dinged it or I dinged? So ordering 15 tins of pellets and getting back to shooting the 3 guns I have, and start studying up on what one to buy next! PCP, HW97, HW30 oh so many to choose from!
