Well, I did it....

I've been reading about the Daisy 880 for a couple of months here and I've passed them a dozen times at Wally World and kept talking myself out of buying one. I kept telling myself I have enough air guns and right now I'm in the middle of trying to repair my 7 lb. CO2 bottle's leaking valve....I just don't need another project. Well, seems like my will was weak Friday and I got one. Took it out yesterday to a friends house to let him shoot it out of the box and he kept hitting bullseye at 10 yds. I took it from him and started shooting at my spoons target at 20 yds. And hit about 75% of the time....with open sights! I brought it home to install a spare Centerpoint 3-9 scope and realized I had no rings or mount so I put the Cracker Jacks (for those old enough to remember) prize tube that came with it on and sighted in. Wow! Hit the spoons 100% at 20 yds. Now I'm gonna fill the stock with caulk, tape the barrel and and put a piece of felt under the pump. Tired of that clacking. It groups well with Crosman Destroyer EX and Crosman Mangun heavies. Quite a gun for the $$. All I can say is WOW!

Cool, I picked up one like new with a centerpoint 4x from Craigslist For only $15

Yes it is a lot of gun for the money, and it feels good in the hand...

You got a great Craigslist buy. I'm still gonna put the Centerpoint 3-9 on it.. I've ordered the rings from Amazon and should be here in a few days. It should really reach out then. Good luck with your rifle. I understand sometimes you get a bad QC one and it's just good for parts. I lucked on mine. Hope you did too.

Cracker jacks scope, that's funny..

I was born in 64, I do remember them.

And when you used to actually get toys in them, not the printed stuff you get now.

(No I never got one of those "special" toys you always heard rumors of that made them stop including them in the boxes.)

I haven't found the magic pellets for mine yet.

The pellets I am using shoot better than minute of dogs rump,
 at this point in time that's all I need the 880 for, as it stands by the back door to deter the neighbors 100 lb dog from leaving a landmine in my back yard...

It's amazing what 12.5 oz. of caulk in the stock will do. It feels and handles like a different rifle. Also got the barrel taped. I put my spoons target out at 30 yds. and hit 8 out of 8 shots, and with the plastic scope. That almost rivals my Crosman 2400 KT and my QB78D. And all for 45 bucks. Just amazing.

Yes I've lived here since 1971. Retired from A.F.D. in 1998. Have lots of friends in the Tioga area.  I can only find two other guys that shoot air guns. We have fun though.

Jackson is about 3 hours from here, we are near tupelo.

We moved away from there in 97.
I used to be on the RPSO from 88-94, we may have crossed paths before..

Not many public ranges in that area anymore from what I hear, and with them not allowing "target practice" in the national forest anymore, Livingston, and Claiborne are out.

At least with an airgun you can do it in your back yard.
And knowing all the city cops help.

As they say, "It's good to have friends....."

 the tape and caulk are both really easy. 1st the tape:

   Remove the barrel shroud. To remove it JUST remove the screws from the shroud end of the plastic breech. DO NOT separate the entire gun. After the screws are out a slight lift and twist and the shroud come off. Add electrical tape about 3/8th's of an inch back on the straw barrel until the muzzle fits just snuggly, but not so tight you need to force it on. Then reassemble.

   For the caulk, get a tube or 2 of cheap silicone caulk for a caulking gun. Remove the butt plate from the 880. Under the butt plate is a hole to put the caulk through. If you want the stock totally full if I remember right it takes a little more than one tube. Several here have just done 1 tube and are really pleased with the balance and overall better feel of the 880.

45bravo I know or knew many on RPSO. My bro in law is the oldest working deputy. Capt. Earl Nichols. When I was working on the fire department I knew just about all the city cops too. It does have its advantages.

Thanks for the info...did both of these last yesterday and wow what a difference it makes!  I only had 3/4 of a tube of silicone  but that was more than enough...made it feel like a different gun.  After I added the tape to the barrel, my groups were much tighter at 25 yds and no flyers yet...now if I could just get rid of that annoying clack-clack-clack every time you cock the thing!
