More on the HW30S cocking lever

I just got my new HW30s silver deluxe from Straight Shooters. I asked about the cocking lever galling issue and they seemed unaware of it. I was given the impression that it was just some over picky guys creating an issue where there really was none. Having shot the beautiful little rifle a few weeks. I realized that cocking was becoming more difficult and that it was a very nasty metal grinding happening. This issue is no joke! I took the rifle out of the stock, punched the pin in the lever and took a peak. It wasn't just a bit of rubbing happening, there was major gouging going on. I must admit that the plastic insert seems a bit of a temporary fix. I filed some of the gouging down but it is too deep to remove. I sanded the lever arms and the compression tube and put on some moly. Now it is very smooth to cock, but I am suspicious that it will start grinding again when I shoot it. Anybody do a permanent fix by removing material? I suppose I have already voided the warranty.

I am very surprised that they claimed to be unaware of the hw30s cocking problems. They have always given me quality info.  Maybe there was a miscommunication because I am sure they have encountered the problem before.

IMHO, there is no permanent fix. The derlin insert has never fixed the problem for more than a month or two for me.  I do as you did once or twice a year. Strip down the gun and polish and lube the cocking lever and compression chamber if and when it begins to grind.  In general, this is a very minor problem. More annoying than anything else.

Delrin will last a long time ... It does not wear away .

If you are that worried it really is not hard to remove the stock and inspect the arm for rough edges and sand or file any burrs off. Don't go nuts, and put some moly on the mating surfaces when you are done. Voila! The delrin insert is a dinky band-aid to an easily corrected (and small) issue IMO. Shim the delrin too much and you will ruin that gun's delightfully effortless and positive cocking stroke.

I also just purchased a hw30s silver from straight shooters. I have only put about 20 pellets down the pipe and it is pieces onmy bench right now awaiting a pg2 vortek kit going in tomorrow.  I too had the first signs of galling. What I did was cut and shape a solidblock of delrin .245 wide by .366 tall by 2 in. Long those dimensions leave it .016 proud of the arm. It was a nice tight press fit that I don't see moving , comming loose or falling out. I'll take some pics when I put her back together. I didnt use any special tools other than a coping saw, belt sander and digital calipers.

These rifles do rub and so does the HW50 as well.  I noticed this from doing customers guns.  I think HW needs to address this issue and come up with a permanent non-gouging fix for sure.

This is definitely something  that does not happen to all HW30s. I bought mine from AoA 4 or 5 months ago and have not yet had a galling issue. But I agree, Weihrauch needs to address this.

My 30s has never dragged, my 50s gouged a trough both shoot great but its an odd design decision to not address.
