crosman 2400kt will not shoot

hi folks I haven't had much time to do a lot with my air rifles in a while but take a shot here and there. I have recently been shooting more often and yesterday I loaded up the cs 200kt and did some shooting and the rifle seemed to not have any power so I changed out the co2 cartrage and it shot fine again. I got a call and when I picked the rifle up it wouldn't shoot. so I went to change the co2 again but when I unscrewed the cap to the cartage it leaked co2 out like it was a full cartrage. put a new one in and it punctured the co2 like it was supposed to but wont shoot a pellet. any one got an idea what I need to look at to fix it. gun is stock except power adjuster, long probe bolt and some trigger work which would not cause this problem. I figure its a valve issue but don't know what to look for thanks guys.   Dave

Taking a guess that the piercing pin is possibly sticking in the cartridge. This can be caused by overtightening the CO2 cap or, possibly, too much pre-load on the hammer spring. That you could unscrew the cap with your hand indicates the cartridge never charged the valve.

I had to use tools to unscrew the cap for the first time ever I really never tighten the cap much.

Back off the overtravel trigger screw.  If screwed in too far it can limit the sear releasing the hammer &/or cause drag on the hammer.

ok checked the trigger spring and hammer both are moving freely. hammer is hitting the pin and piercing the co3 cartrage but only shoots a couple times then does not shoot again does not seem to be blowing co2 out barrel either. I will be disassembling the rifle some time tomarrow to see what I find

My 2400 did something similar, but when I looked at the cartridge, it was just barely pierced.

I checked the over travel screw, it had plenty of room.

I put a dot of pelgun oil on the cartridge (I hadn't done that in 10 or 15 cartridges)
And made sure I screwed the cap down as far as I normally do, and it pierced just fine that time, send every time since.

If you haven't already, do as  Bill said, back out the trigger overtravel screw on the back of the trigger guard.

thought I would give this all one more try before a took it apart and I think the seals on the co2 cart. was really thick. the pin pierces the seals on three carts but barely on the forth it was fine,think I may have got a bad box. as far as the trigger stop I have it backed off because I never really cared for it. I just feel if your squeezing the trigger the rifle goes off b4 the trigger actually hit the stop. I'm going to shoot some more and see what happens today. I got another box of carts so we will see
