Benjamin titan, not tuner friendly?

Ok, so I finally took the plunge and broke down my benji titan.  It was frustrating and time consuming to say the least.  First i tried to remove the barrel as recommend by some guys in another post, however a bearing sleeve prevented this from being possible.  so I after an hour of frustration i just broke the barrel open (after disconnecting the cocking link) and put it in my bar clamp.  After removing the piston and nitro piston i found everything was coated in thin rust oil with consistancy of water.  The piston itself was gauged and scratched along the cocking slot, which i sanded and smoothed.

 The piston seal was not horrible, but obviously worn however adding to my frustration was the fact that there is no obvious way to take the seal off.  Can any help with this who's had experience with the benji titan.

The seal does not come off the piston easily.  I got mine off by putting a screwdriver blade between the piston surface and the seal.  Using the screwdriver for leverage I was then able to work it over the end of the piston.  Wait until you go to replace it!!

The reinstallation involves getting the seal over one side of the post in the middle of the piston and then stretching it and working it over the post all around.  This may be accomplished with the help of one or two small screwdrivers through the hole in the seal and using leverage against the post in the middle of the piston.

By the way, after removing the pivot screw the barrel will come out.  Usually the nylon washers are under pressure, which makes it seem like an impossible task.  It's not.

worm main seal in hot water for a short time it will go on fairly easy as well

x2 on the hot water for the seal. it works very well for taking off and putting back on.

I have done a few Titans, not very hard at all, you just have to have patients and take your time...

Spend a few hours in the GTA Library before you jump in and things will go a lot easier...

Thanks guys, i just cleaned out the whole gun with simple green im just waiting on the ultimox 226 before I can reassemble it.

So i finally got the lube, and just finished reassembling my benji titan.  I fired a few shots and noticed after i broke the barrel open there was smoke coming out of the breech, but not the transfer port. And there is a ringing metal on metal ping after each shot is fired.  Should I be worried about this stuff or is it normal.

The smoke will go away soon enough. As for the metal..... you might want to try seating your pellets in a bit farther. How is accuracy?

That isn't smoke, it is vaporized lube and it will go away eventually depending on how much you used...

Try heavier pellets the shot cycle will be calmer.

I just the shot its first 3 shot group.  I got a dime sized group at 50', there was no smoke but I think there was junk in barrel.  I used a brass brush (I know this is frowned upon but I was desperate) and a ton of lead particles came out.  But I think there has been a decrease in power. Im gonna find a chrono to find out for sure.

It definitely more accurate though, but that might have been luck.

Normally cleaning and degreasing helps improve accuracy by making the gun more consistent.  When you replaced the seal was it tight in the compression tube, if so you may need to take it out and size it down a touch or wait for it to wear into the correct size which may take quite a while depending on how oversized it was....

I didn't replace the piston seal, the stock one was only a little worn so i figured id keep it.  Before i put in the gas piston i ran the piston back and forth in the receiver imitating the cocking motion to make sure everything was all smooth and grease was evenly distributed.

I did notice that the ultimox wasn't really as slippery and greasy as I thought it was going to be.  It was a little frustrating applying it cause it wouldn't spread out, it this normal or did i get a bad batch?

You probably did not degrease good enough, it takes alot of cleaning to get all of the grease out.

I did a some more testing and got more dime sized groups at 60' and got my first kill yesterday on crow thats been causing me some problems.  The smoking/vapor and metal ringing sound is gone, so overall I'd call this a successful first tune.
