I got to put my 953 over the chrono Sunday.

A fellow shooter brought his chrony to the range Sunday and I got to put a couple of rifles over it.

85 deg day, daisy 953 bought used from a member here, shooting JSB 8.44 exacts.

It turned in 20 shots between 498 and 503.
Standard dev. was 2.8 FPS.

It seems a little low below the advertised FPS of the rifle.
But it is very consistent.

Question, do you think it because of the 8.44gr pellet it is low, or in need of resealing.

I personally think since it is consistent, it is the pellet weight..

Any input on the matter?

I just looked at the box for the 953 I got last Christmas and it said 490 fps. So, it looks like your gun is doing OK.

My 753 fully rebuilt would only shoot those at around 425.  I'm at 6000 ft, though.

Understand that those rifles are designed for 10m target competition.  They are made for those restrictions.  Target Wadcutters, used in competition, aren't as heavy as what you're using.  Your rifle is healthy.

Cool, I looked at the specs on pyramid air, they say 500fps too.
Somewhere I had it in my mind it was supposed to be in the 550 range..

That's what I get for thinking.

I was surprised at the small deviation in shots for such an inexpensive gun..

It is truly a fun gun to shoot all afternoon.
The 5 shot clip makes it especially enjoyable,
Cock, pump, shoot, repeat...
For more precision playing, I mount a 3.5-10 side focus scope, and for backyard plinking I stick an aimpoint comp3 (from my ar-15) on it.
Put the dot on the spot, and squeeze the trigger...

the 953 states that the FPS is 550... but the x53 series guns generally shoot in the low 5s, high 4s. yours is very healthy if its shooting at that velocity with 8.44 gr. they are also stupid accurate...

I use my 85 953 at 20-25 yards it comes very close to stacking pellets( probably me is the reason it does not)  mine has a choked barrel and at that distance loves the 7.4g points.

mine was shooting 425 fps (2000' above sea) but simple mod and is now at 525 fps.

When it was at 425fps the 10.3g ultra mags did not make it out of the barrel they would stick at the choke.
