B3 tune

I have this link on a B3.  My B3 was shooting all over the place all of a sudden and i remembered I had this link to rebuild it. It wasnt but I did learn a lot and found out how important a spring compressor is.  After tearing it all donw a soaking the leather seal, lubing everything, sanding and smoothing. It still shot all over the place. Smoother but no more  accurately. Then I looked into the trigger and after sanding and lubing there. I can finally shoot 5 shots into the size of a dime at 10 yards.  Probably as good as I am going to get it with the trigger assembly.

The spring on this gun is under tremendous pressure. Do not try without a compressor.

Thanks for the write up with photos.  I have torn mine down a couple of times and it would have been nice to have photos the first time.

when barrels get run in they sometimes will change what pellet shoots best, bores can be rough in some so run a dry patch or two down the bore and retest using different pellets...

Oh yeah I tried cleaning the bore several times, different pellets too. But its that awful trigger that was the problem. The trigger just flops around in there. You can tell when you are trying to shoot it, its stiff one time, loose the next. Stuck the third time. I was considering buying a spring and sear from @#$%^ but mine looked fine. What I ended up doing was pinching the metal on either side of where the trigger sits. Just a bit with clamp. To take some of the side to side play out of the trigger. That and smoothing it with a stone and lubing it. The pin that holds the trigger in is only held in by the stock. It will fall out every time you take the action out of the stock.

When I had a B3 I did a couple trigger "tweaks" which helped. I kinked the spring a bit to reduce the trigger pull and made new better fitting trigger pins.......


I also cleaned up the piston (the compression tube was actually pretty good) and replaced the leather seal with a home turned oring sealed piston cap........

As a bonus, by tweaking with an oring sealed piston cap I increased the .177 velocity from 550fps to 700fps using the exact same spring! As a side note........up to this point I never shot a springer that didn't shoot CP lights well, however this gun shot "patterns" with the CPLs instead of groups. Switching from CPLs to 8.4 grain JSB Exact pellets I was rewarded with these groups after reassembly.......

25 yards on a field target paddle using the factory iron sights............


After removing the iron sights and fitting with a 6x Burris scope that cost about 8x as much as the B3 when bought............

I lathe turned them from 01 tool steel drill rod. I don't remember the actual size of the pins (got rid of the B3 years ago) but I'm betting that you could find an appropriate drill bit size (perhaps a "letter size" drill bit) that would fit well, then cut the shank portion to length.
