hard to break

I was out shooting my vantage NP and It started to get really hard to break open. The gun is not hard to cock that is normal but when you first hit the barrel to get it to break open it is almost impossible I gave it a good whack and it just hurts your hand to smack it open now. I don't know why it would be harder to break. Is it possible that I have shot it so much that the alive jam has worn a groove into the pin it locks in so it is initially harder to break in? It is like it happened so fast it was fine and then it just got really hard to break open. Any ideas?

Hey deweytastic,
The same thing happened to me with my Benjamin Trail NP .22 cal . . . I had used some Crosman Silicone Chamber Oil or RMCOIL on the bushing / washer / break bolt and the alive jam. I could barely break the barrel and like you my fist was getting sore from pounding on the barrel trying to get it open.
Try this – it worked for me:
Wipe off any oil on the alive jam / detent and apply some Pennzoil #705 or white grease to the alive jam and detent with a Q-tip. I barely have to tap the end of the barrel to break it open - works so smoothly now – no problems at all since I applied the white grease.
Good Shooting,
Daniel

I had the same issue with my Venom...moly on the jam did the trick. You have to work it in though.

Instead of putting moly all over the place in my gun, I use graphite dust lube, the kind you put into a lock to keep the lock functioning like it should, just my .02

As has been said the alive jam needs a little lube. All you really need is enough so it looks wet on the sides and chisel tip. I use synthetic grease, heat or cold doesn't effect it.
