New Trail NP

I really enjoyed shooting my Trail NP and when I bent the barrel I was very dissapointed. I sent it back to Crosman and Kim said she would gladely replace the entire gun because they do not have replacement barrels yet. She said they were backed up with orders and it would take a couple of weeks to get it.
In the meantime, I found a Trail NP Hardwood on sale for $177 online so I bought it. Eventually I plan on swapping a .177 barrel on one of them.
The new Trail NP arrived today and after cleaning the barrel with Goo Gone and firing a dozen shots to clear the light oil from the compression chamber, I shot it over the Chrony. It averaged 803 FPS with CPHP 14.3 pellets but continued to smoke a lot and the spread was over 40 FPE. I figured the seal was nicked so I broke it down, deburred and relubed with moly and silicone grease. The seal was pretty bad so I put on a JM Tesla seal and put it back together.
The new seal is a tight fit compared to the stock one and now it only shoots CPHP's 780 FPS but with a spread of only around 15 FPE. Almost 20 FPE and it should increase a little after break-in.
I mounted a Leapers 3-9X40 scope and it is already stacking pellets at 20 yards. I have to say I'm quite pleased.

Looks like more than a couple of us got lucky this summer! Now if we can just remember NOT to bend our barrels....
Best of luck with it!

Hope this one turns out to also be a goody, Perry.
When I replaced the seal in my Whisper with the "Gamo" Tesla, it was a tight fit also. After a few hunderd shots the seal wore in and the speeds came up about 5% more.
Paul.

Paul, this Tesla seal seems to fit tighter than other Tesla seals I put in my old Trail NP. I may try to re-size it tomorrow. I will measure it and compare it to another slightly used Tesla seal I have. Maybe I'll swap it out with that one. The main thing is that the gun is very accurate.
I wonder if JM's Tesla MK2 Piston Seal has a smaller OD?

As you said, it's accurate. Doesn't matter what speed the gun has, it's a fence post if it can't hit what your aimin' at !
Had I known how much oversized the seal should be, I'd have jigged it up in the lathe and sized it before installing. Anyway, I got alot of practice wearing it it ...and there was possably a slight rise in JSB company stock too !

Great way to think Paul. And all that muscle tone and I got to get some stock in JSB and I imagine you will be needing more real soon.
I am enjoying the break in time on my NPSS 22 after the tune. Got rid of my flyer's too!!
