thinking about moving a BSA Airsporter... checking if there is interest...

I got a MK1 transitional BSA airsporter from 1958/1959 (no scope rail) in great condition. she shoots very smoothly and quietly at the expected 550 fps in .22. She has sat on the safe too long without use and i prefer she going to a place where she would be put to use more, and given the attention she deserves. Condition is 90+. Just checking if there is someone who might be interested in providing for this wonderful carbine... Just posting on the classies seems so impersonal on this particular rifle... figure if you are hanging on this forum you might have a soft spot for gals like her...

I'm positive there's a good home waiting for your MKI. I have a Lightning XL and Meteor MK4 in .177, along with an early Supersport in .22. They may take a little sprucing up to reach their full potential, but are accurate, consistent, and fun to shoot At least mine are.
The BSAs I've seen for sale move quickly. Would you happen to have a Mercury too?

no... i had 2 of them... a carbine size deluxe and a rifle size standard ( the deluxe had the nicely figured stock...) but i sold them... To be honest, i did not find them as nice as the supersport...

Please let me know if and when you decide to part with her.
BSA was purchased again, along with Gamo by a NY equity fund last year. Its my hope the new management will make a commitment to restoring BSA quality.

The company is still controlled by El Gamo in spain. their interest is owned by a larger fund, but they will allow it to be run by the old management, which has not changed. They have owned BSA since 1984. Most gamo and bsa products share common DNA... cfx/ airsporter... nitro17/comet... dynamax/scorpion...etc... To be honest is unfair to say that gamo has the sole responsibility on quality of BSA guns... I have owned supersports from the last decade and they were great guns... i also remember the gamo 1250... and the extreme. they were quality guns, but you paid a premium, like a good german gun. Gamo made more a move to be like crosman, and they have succeeded. They made guns for the masses... they sold the shadow in the millions (starting with the 220 and up), and at least they made them themselves... the crosman went to the chinese to get their guns... Old gamos are cool, and are good sub 200 dollar guns... a supersport was about 350 to 400... its not apples to apples.
If you want the airsporter i will send you pictures... better yet, since you are in decatur and i am in Hiram GA, i can drive it to you or we can meet somewhere so you can see it and shoot it... what do you think? plus you should meet the rest of the crew and the whole FT club from Atlanta...

I think the meet and shoot, along with meeting the FT club is a great idea.
You bring up some very valid points about Gamo, before the Spanish private equity firm MCH acquired a controlling stake in 2007. The same business model seems to have been adopted by more than one airgun manufacturer. Thankfully, not all.
Hopefully we will see some dryer and milder days soon.
