ATTENTION R9/HW95 .22 owners!!!!

I just ordered my very first airgun from PA, a beeman R9 in .22 and was wonderin if you could help narrow down what pellets your gun likes the most. From what I was reading H&N FTT work well in them but its also been stated that every rifle is a different beast and likes what it likes. So I'll be ordering most of the pellets recommended by you fine folks. Also can someone give me a rundown on what kind of kit I need as far as cleaning and maintenance of the rifle? Do I need cleaning pellets? Is there a special oil I need for the cocking mechanism? Rod or bore snake? And does and donts of cleaning maintaining? I have all the regular stuff for cleaning my powder burners but I don't want to do anything wrong with my air rifle and mess it up due to my ignorance of air guns. Thank you in advance folks.

Great choice!! I have a 98, same action different stock, and it is a performer!!
I clean mine with a Crown Saver. It is a pull through and makes cleaning simple!! I believe Timmy Mac sells them....2 for $15. They will last forever. I use Goo Gone. Just a little on a patch, then dry patches. My rifle has well over 10,000 down the tube and I think I cleaned the barrel 4 times.
Mine is 177 and I use mid weight, 7.3 - 8.64, domes. JSB and H&N.
Extremely well made rifle and stupid accurate!!
The ONLY thing I had to do was tighten the pivot bolt once. When cocked if the barrel won't hold itself up before it latches tighten it a hair. That is the only thing I've done. I wipe the action and stock down with a Balistol dampened rag.

Excellent choice and congratulations!  Every rifle is different as you've heard, but I'd start with H&N FTT 14.6 (5.53 head size) and also JSB 14.3.  If you're lucky, one of these will work well for you.  If not, there's quite a bit out there. 

Can't help with the cleaning as I haven't decided if I'm going to clean mine or not - although I have heard that the cleaning pellets were a bad idea.  No data behind this, just a few folks' opinions that I read.  Further, some folks are in the "never" clean camp and some do so after each tin of pellets.  Seems a pretty wide margin of opinion out there...

I'm in the market for a new gun and this is at the top of the list, but I really like the RWS 48 also so we'll see.

Cleaning: pulling patches through the bore is better than using a cleaning rod.  I use Goo Gone and then dry patches.  Because my rifles are .177, Q-tips can be pushed through, using the brass rod very carefully.  A Crown Saver is ideal for cleaning.

Other than that, make sure the stock screws are tight and use blue Loctite. 

My R9 likes the barrel pivot tight enough to feel resistance when moving the barrel, after cocking.

Lube: Search for posts by Ed Canoles, aka NCEd.  He has used several and is liking the grease mentioned below and, if memory serves, Krytox GPL 106 oil.

Also search for Ed's posts on cleaning and pellet lube.  He describes how to use Slick 50 One Lube for pellet lubing, without getting dieseling.

I have both a hw95 (R9) and hw85 in .22.  Both are tuned.  Both do about the same velocity wise with H&N FTT's...around 725fps.  I've been using the 5.53 head size and they seem to work well, although there are quite a few that are very small and just drop in the barrel rather than fitting nice and snug like they should.  My 85 also likes jsb exacts in 5.52 size.  A crown saver pull through type bore cleaner works well.  Just do a search for "crown saver".

OK the barrel says 5.5mm, would I be able to use 5.55mm? Or would this be to big?

I use JSB Exact Jumbo Express pellets (14,35gr) and JSB Exact Jumbo Diablo (15,89gr) with very good accuracy. On the tin is only 5.5mm written so I don't know the exact head diameter but they shoot well.

5.55mm isn't too big or else they wouldn't be produced for air rifles. It just depends what YOUR barrel on YOUR gun prefers. Smaller head sizes 5.53mm or bigger. You have to find it out.
