470 TH - in love again!

I've been wanting a decent air rifle for a while, something I can use for years, teach my daughter to shoot with and eventually hand on. My older air rifle could become more of a project gun without the need to be ready and working 100% of the time.

I fell in love with the 470 TH - the stock and lines of it sucked me in and once I'd pulled it to my shoulder and a few test shots later I was sold.

I spent a hot morning out at the farm shooting it in and generally plinking, I had to stop around 150 shots as I had to return back home to pack for a trip the following day which cut short my sighting in session. 2 weeks later I returned out to the farm and started where I had left off the sighting in. First couple of shots were good, but the next was a 'flier' and way off the paper. As I raised the gun up to cock it again, the cocking lever was already out, weird I thought but cocked and loaded for another shot.

<Phut> Some strange mis-fire, the muzzle weight and cocking lever latch fell clean off, the securing grub screw was a bit mangled and the threaded hole for the grub screw in the barrel showed signs of damage. The muzzle weight showed signs of the last 2 shots grazing it internally. Oh well, back to the shop for some attention... more worrying when I spotted a random spring in the bottom of the gun case as I was handing it over. I must have some bad karma or something!

Looking forward to continuing my romance with the 470 once it's back

  On both my 440TH and my 470TH, the muzzle weight was loose after like 5 shots, and it appeared that Diana used no thread locker of any sort on the set screws.
  A generous drop of Blue Loc Tite solved the problem, and they haven't moved or loosened since.
  Make sure that the O ring didn't get lost. I'm not sure if it fits the groove in the barrel, or goes inside the front of the muzzle piece to cushion the muzzle piece from the barrel crown.

Yup!! Grub screws on my 56 backed out and fell on my bench the first week I had it. Also, the snap ring for one of the rods in the cocking lever disappeared. I wrapped some solid low voltage wire around it.

  I actually prefer to buy used or refurbed, but sometimes the only way you can scratch the itch for a snappy new offering is to hunker down and order the darn thing.

  Some models just don't come up for sale on the boards as often as other models do, and you are driven to just buying a new one and debugging it yourself.
  For guys with tools and some knowledge, that's not really a big problem, but to a newer guy with limited airgun experience it can be a royal pain in the nethers.
  The same caveat applies to guys that just plain don't feel like messing with tinkering and tuning. Your only option then is to sell, or ship it off for the tuning voodoo.

The 470TH is a great looking rifle that looks alot like the 56 minus siding action.  Great times you will have with it for sure!  Congrats!

  Try a 440TH on for size if you get a chance.

  It's like the 470TH's mild mannered little brother.

An absolutely B-E-A-U-T-I-F-U-L looking air rifle.. I fired mine again a few days back, just to get a few rounds through it and I still can't get over its stunning looks. It feels like it's just bursting with life too, but I don't mind it just sitting there as it looks as good in the corner of the room as it feels in the hand(s)...

I'll have to watch that cocking lever and its coupling too, in the future...

I always buy new, just feels more right to me........then I got a call from PA. I've been waiting for a new. Pro Sport since the end of Nov. Got word from AA that a shipment would be at PA the end of Feb. delivery date pushed back again and again. Now it's 3/6.....maybe.
Was notified of a Pro Sport walnut 177 refurb was available. Exactly what I ordered! Grabbed it.....got delivered today......barrel shroud, or sleeve, is mangled. First second hand rifle ever and it goes back.......and I am waiting and waiting and waiting....
