  Freedom 8 fills Guppy tank from 2500 to 4500 psi in about 1 hour and I can fill my pcp rifles about 14 times from 1800 to 2600 psi win win and this old fart goes back to sweating only when doing something that requires that heavy breathing and sweat. PS Freedom 8 ain't cheating

Yes. Any compressor that can deliver a regulated output at 20 to 30 psi.

  Home Depot and Lowes  have a porter cable oil less pancake with 150 psi tank pressure with adjustable regulator built in for $129.00 not too heavy (35 lbs) and fairly quiet. Set regulator to 20 psi for hand pumping and set to 120 psi for the new Freedom 8 this whole thing set up and running with in line desiccant filter about $1,300

I want one! I just spent 1450 on a rifle though, so maybe in a couple months. Pump, pump, pump away for now!

Some guys have said that the pumps leak when boosting it off a compressor. I think if you use a small storage tank the pressure will go down as the pressure drops when the gun gets near 3000 psi it will be easier to pump with a lot less leakage

Yea match the curve so to speak.  A large tank with 30-35psi to start. ends with 15-20psi and your gun is at say 3100-3200. Of course higher fills would be ending in lower booster tank psi.  The point is it would require fewer strokes and the effort would be constant through out the filling cycle.  Just more efficient all the way around. This will require some figurrin.

I use the small tank on my compressor and do it this way;

1. Run the compressor until it completely fills the tank to 150psi and shuts off
2. Let the air cool down some in the tank so any water will condensate on the bottom (air fitting is at the top)
3. Set the regulator to 20-25psi for a normal fill, higher if the air tank on the gun is empty for some reason
4. Hook up my fill line which has one water trap with dessicant at the tank and another on the Hill pump
5. Pump the gun, slowly to account for more pumping pressure and making sure I'm pushing straight down on the handle

I generally don't have to run the compressor but every few fills, but I just top off the tank to 150psi each time so the air cools and again lets water condensate to the bottom. I bought one of the little Porter Cable compressors at Lowes, couldn't be happier with it.

That's exactly how I do it too,  but with an 8 gallon compressor. I read on another forum (might even have been Rsterne"s post now that I think about it) that if you use a smaller 2-3 gallon pancake compressor it evens out the pressure a little better once you get up to the 2500 - 3000 psi range due to the smaller reservoir of air on tap.

Me 2 er uh...3. I never see any water exhausted by the pump when I depressurize it before disconnect. And I live in Humidtown Texas and always fill outdoors.

Yes let me know if you figure it out lol. I think matching the curve as you say is a good way because if compressor goes on and pressure goes back to 30-35 psi as your gun is near 3000 psi it will be hard to pump

This is a great way to conserve on energy! I think if I buy 2 pumps 2 Tee's and get my wife on one pump and me on the other I could do an 80 pump stroke fill up in 20 pumps or less, also if I go slow enough I could do it in 10 pump stokes!  You know slow down and tell the wife faster-faster-faster Gosh hope she don't read this 

All jokes aside, what happens is say your pump itself pulls in 1 cu ft of air and air compresses so when you hook up the pressurized external air source you compress about double the air volume into the pump, so when you push down on the stroke you are actually pushing 2 cu ft into the gun instead of 1 cu ft. cool I say. Not only that I bet the pump stays cooling due to less strokes and saving on wear and tear of the O-Rings!

Wonder how many strokes it would take to fill my 90 cu in buddy bottle to say 3600 PSI!

I know it don't really pump 1 cubic foot of air but, those numbers are just easier to understand!

[Mine too was blowing air out the entire time.  I stopped after a few pumps as I did not think it was right.  I have since gotten a tank, though am still interested in this for the day I run out of air in the tank as it is a 35 min drive to get to a scuba shop.

My Benji pump leaked at first, I wrapped teflon tape (5 wraps ) on the tube where it threads into the base, problem solved. Be careful when wrapping tape you do not want the tape into the base where pieces of tape can get into the air system- gun.

Who needs a boosted pump? That is what my girlfriend is for lol. She does not have to go to the gym as much pumping up my guns lol
