had my rifle chrony'd today...

715 average over 10 shots... 19 fps between highest and lowest... i don't know how to calculate the other numbers.... 715 fps for a .22 with 14.3 CPHP's... should be plenty adequate for hunting... so i'm guessing i'm just getting bad shots.

But you're looking at about 16.24fpe, which is plenty for nutter popping!!!!

Crosman Titan GP .22. the numbers seem about on par with the rest of the world's numbers. i did however email crosman about potentially purchasing a NP from there Trail XL series. i want more power.... and i like the way my rifle shoots.

I'm a power junkie too.

My NP XL1100 pumps out about 27-28fpe and the NP XL1500 around 23-24fpe. REAL powerhouse nail drivers. I posted in the Bargain Gate this afternoon where you can get the XL1100 for $239.99. Uncle paulie posted they have them at www.ramseyoutdoor.com for that price also but with free shipping. I looked the web site over and did a search but they are not listed on there. You would have to call but I was thinking they didn't sell airguns online. May have to visit their store for a deal.
Anyway, the XL series is a great piece, in my book.

yeah it seems to be. my reasoning behind getting the Titan GP was...

i really enjoyed my first one. it was a fantastic little piece. It had its downfalls, but it felt really good.

I might still pick up a xl1100.

EZ, do you have chrony results for the CPHP'S 14.3 grains? i'd like to know how much a difference there is.

ok i did the backwards math, about 875 fps with a 14.3 pellet. but thats just with the cphp's.

Feel fortunate, i'm only getting about 690-700fps out of my titan using 14.3.. luckily she seems to like the 11.9gr. hobby pellet better, 740's. J

no i'm saying his XL1100 should get 875. mine's only getting 715, and still not completely broken in. i'm sure the fps will drop down about 10-15 when she settles in.

I read somewhere that you only need 300fps and 3fpe in 22 cal to kill a squirrel, so it has to be bad shots especially being propelled that fast

i've had one shot, hit its shoulderblade, completely expand, and not penetrate past it. i've had another, punch through dead center of a sparrow, and the little SOB flew off. i'm guessing i am just hitting them magically in that spot that doesn't kill them.

It's the other way around. FPS generally improves after break-in. The piston seal conforms to the slight imperfections in the compression tube after a couple tins of pellets.

CPHP (14.3gr) wasn't the best performer in the XL1100 but what I got was:
lo - 898.79
hi - 916.00
avg -909.77
spread 17.21

average 26.29fpe

Best in my gun was H&N Crow Magnum (18.21gr) with avg of 26.44fpe and spread of 13.86fps.

You are getting 16.2 FPE with 715@ 14.3 gr. Very good power for hunting.
875 would be 24.3 FPE

Formula = grains*FPS*FPS= /450240 = FPE
or
Formula = grains x FPS x FPS= total/450240 = FPE

oh, my rifle is plenty capable of hunting, i've shot through a squirrel at 35 yds, i'm just surprised that 2x in a row now, i've Injured a squirrel with a normally kill shot. just poor shot placement i guess. i did end up collecting both animals, but i'm just dissapointed.

I think you'll need more power then just 300fps to consistantly kill Squirrels.

That's about the speed of my Daisy 25, and at 20 yards BB's just bounce off them. I use it because it will only sting them when they climb on the bird feeder.

When hunting season starts I'll switch over to the Whisper at 14fpe, which I know has enough power having taken 21 Grays and 6 Reds last year. Or, the XL at 24fpe.
