I have been told by friends and neighbors that Gander Mountain has had .22LR ammo regularly lately, about once a week in great numbers and at decent prices. It still sells out within a few hours, so if you have a GM store in your area check it or call them regularly. The nearest GM is a bit far for me (26 miles), but when I was there a few weeks ago, they had plenty of other ammo. They also had a huge display on the floor of Remington core-lokt big game calibers at almost 2012 prices. Certainly cheaper than the last time I was there. Probably a thousand boxes or more of .243, .270, .308, 30-30, 30-06, 7mm and 300 Mag. All of these were about $2 less per box than Walmart.
My Walmart has been getting a good amount of centerife in, but they have not lowered the prices like other big box stores and on-line vendors. I was able to get a few boxes of Fed, Win. and Rem. 30-30 on line for $14.99 to $15.69 recently, but Walmart is still $17.47 after a couple of price increases last year and earlier this year. WM used to be one of the cheapest around but not anymore. They probably do not know how to reduce a price. GM and Dicks and others have a much better system and are aware of the market, because they have reduced their ammo prices. The WM shelves are now pretty full (except .22LR) because they are the highest around me, and have not adjusted their prices like most others. I doubt they will.

yeah I can find almost normal prices on everything except 22, and it seems 308 is still running a bit high but I can actually find 308... almost makes me think about picking up some kind of AR just for the cheaper ammo!!

Just bought three boxes of Federal Lightning 40 gr solids for $1.97 a box at Wallyworld.
Can't wait to try them out. I have never shot this brand because I usually shoot Mini-Mags.
But, Its been a while since I found Mini-Mags.

It's the Federal 510 (as in Fed. 710, 810, etc.) that comes in a blue box. Same exact ammo. Just renamed "Lightning" for Walmart. If you notice on the side it says "510".
It's Federal's cheapest ammo, like Thunderbolt is for Remington, but it's not too bad from what I have read. My Walmart has those for $2.47 once in a blue moon. I bought a couple of boxes from them a few months ago, but I havent' tried it yet. I put them in my reserve stash, for a rainy day
I was at Gander Mountain again a couple of days ago because I was in the area, and they were loaded with pistol ammo. I walked out with huge bulk boxes of 9mm and some 357. The cheap stuff, but it will do
No 22LR though
