I now reserve any .22 rounds I come into for my wife. She likes the low report and no kick of shooting a .22. She won't shoot anything larger. $:-\$ It hasn't been an issue for awhile now, because our local range has been closed due to a fire.

A friend of mine thought me something about 22lr years ago. These things sit on the shelf. Have you ever loaded up and went to shooting and heard, POP, POP, POOP, and wondered why? He said, shake up 22 ammo and get the powder loosened up in the case before you shoot. In the old days, 22 ammo came in a small box of 50. Some were pointed down and some were pointed up, in the box. Shake the ammo before you use it and it will work better. That is your tip for the day.

they all have there basic "bulk" or budget rounds and they all have match grade too. so i would recommend to any following along to test what ever they can get. i have tried every different kind of .22 i could find. from lapua and wolf to cci and rem., fed etc.

That is the exact complaint I have about the Remington Golden Bullets. I didn't notice it on Federal and Winchester, but I will try your bit of advice the next time I go the range, especially since I have several bricks of the Rems I bought back before the crazy hoarding started. Thanks!

I remember when Wolf was just being discovered as a good shooting round, I was buying it by the case ( 5000 ) out of Ca. for $144 shipped. The good old days.

Lloyd, I remember when ANY 22lr was .01 per round. A box of 50 was .50 CCI 100 box was .99. THOSE were the good old days for sure.

About my earliest memory ( price wise ) was saving up 30 cents for a box of shorts or longs. Can't remember which. It was in the early to mid 50s

I still shoot allot of 22RF ammo...

I'm a NRA Bullseye shooter and shoot in a couple leagues.

I shoot CCI BLUE or STD velocity. Its accurate, very lo misfires and was available. Luckily for me, I bought six cases the spring of 2012 knowing there was a price increase. I WAS paying $120 a case. Last month I opened my last case...

I USED to LOVE Remington Goldens. I still have a couple bricks. When I was a kid my uncle and father bought a case and we split it.

Some 20 years back I bought a Marlin 880 Squirrel and a couple different boxes of ammo. The best shooting ammo was again Remington...this time Cyclone's. I went back to shop and bought the remains of the brick. Then the shop contacted the distributor and using the lot number bought the remaining case of that ammo. That ammo is also almost gone...

I tried Federal ammo, a couple different ''flavors'' either feeding or misfire problems.

Winchester hasn't made ''good'' accurate RF ammo for target in too long.

I shot WOLF match too. This was also VERY good and quite accurate and NEVER a misfire!

RWS makes GREAT ammo only its FAR too costly! Actually we where shooting RWS Rifle for some time too. But the prices of a case nearly TRIPPLED!! It dosen't shoot THAT much better then CCI Blue!

This last summer was the first time I did not shoot the leagues in over twenty years!! I did not want to shoot up my ammo!!

I'm sitting on a bunch of .22LR I purchased years ago from a widow who just wanted to get it out of the garage. 30 something bricks of old Western Xpert (Olin Winchester) for $20! I was going to give her more but she wouldn't have it. This was "pre child warning" label stuff. Nice for plinking. Several years ago, my buddy and I went in on a pallet of Aguila .22 for way cheap at Camp Perry CMP, we were there for the national rifle matches. Well we got back from Perry and his wife left him and he was broke. So I got stuck with about 50 thousand rounds! I gave away some over the years but still sitting on a bunch. It never did shoot the best out of my S&W Mod41 bullseye pistol but does ok in my Compass Lake AR15 .22 Service rifle and Ruger pistols. I'm always on the lookout for CCI Standard velocity, my S&W 41 loves it.

The RWS and Eley prices never were the best to begin with, but they have gone completely off the chart as of late.
I'm almost out of RWS R50......

CCI green tag and Rem. Match still do the job, and I am not reduced to relying on Remington Thunderbolts yet, so all is well.

Went to Walmart on Friday to pick up more pellets and much to my surprise, 6 boxes (225 count) of "new and improved" Goldens were in the ammo case. I happily paid the $11.17 per box (3 box limit).

I haven't seen 22LR at this store for a loooong time!

Walmart and the like have none available in the stores, but the local gun shops have piles of the stuff stacked up.
The supply chain finally caught up after the mad panic, and they are way fat on inventory. The prices are somewhat higher than this time 2 years ago, but nothing like the grossly inflated gun show prices.......

i think most of the local gun shops are hoarding it and selling it on gun broker at inflated prices. that way they save face to there walk in customers. most of which would get upset at that kind of gouging. jmo.

I herd this before and pupu'ed it... but now that we see it ''squirting" out at the seams. There HAS TO BE MORE and I think you are spot on correct!

About shooting odd lots of rimfire. Every brand uses their own outside lube. As a result, it takes about a box (50) to re-season a barrel when switching brands. If you go from one brand to another, a box at a time, don't expect to guage the overall accuracy in your gun.

Worst of the lot? Remington Thunderbolt. You will spend as long cleaning as shooting.
