Which .22 lr brand to get, CCI or Blazer?

My wife found out she can get a good price on ammo at our local range. I believe it is a good price anyways ($4-5 a box of 50). Anyone have an opinion on which brand is cleaner ammo in general?

  They use the same powder,lead and case.  The only difference is the velocity.  Blazer is made by CCI.   IMHO they are both some of the cleanest shooting .22's available.      Over the years I have sent a couple tons of both downrange.

I always liked the CCI green tag. Most of my 22's shoot them good.

wow! .10 cents a round? this is why my  .22lr guns are gathering dust. heck i used to pay that for 38 specials not too long ago.

Personally, I prefer the Remington golden high speed 22lr. IMO, CCI  is junk ammo. Just for pinking. IMO.

CCI makes many .22lr rounds including Mini-mag and Blazers.
The mini-mags are their better ammo than the Blazers.

Mudduck is being silly. The Rem Goldens are not as good.

If it's CCI SV (standard velocity) I would buy that.  BTW, Green Tag is CCI SV that's been weight sorted.  Even so, fifty bucks a brick is no great bargain, especially for Blazer.

Oh, if you are shooting targets, you will find many guns do better with standard velocity over hi-speeds although some, like the old Westherby XXII semi auto like fast steppers.

I have to agree with mudduck48 - Remington Golden Bullet ("new and improved")  - they're a love 'em or hate 'em round, most haters don't even give them a real chance.

Any name brand, CCI, Remington, Winchester to name a few, is a good clean round. They are about the same accuracy out of most barrels. Just like pellets, some better than others.

I agree with Red Feather. standard velocities all the way. most match grade target loads are standard velocity range. cci standards work well in mine. i also like wolf mt if you can find them at a decent price. but with the availability of .22 most places, i would get some of both and try them out. see what your gun likes.

i felt like they never give me a chance......... of hitting the intended target that is. lol guess it really depends on the gun.

I'm being silly? The ammo I have I bought 15+ years ago. The best ammo then was the Remington Golden High speed ammo. CCI ammo was crud then and IMO is still crud. I'm being silly? What do you base you info on? I have fired, probably, more 22lr than you have seen.

She ended up getting the Blazers which is all they had. They worked great, but it wasn't our gun so we don't have to clean it to see how dirty they were. They worked fine in the S&W .22 she shot.  She bought the two boxes offered and only went through one of them so we have one extra this time. Hopefully we'll be able to accumulate more in the next few weeks.

yeah what Blind Squirrel said!!!!!!!   i mean i can find every other kind of ammo i need except 22LR!!!!!   what is even more baffling is that i can literally pick up 12 gauge rounds off the shelf for dirt cheap prices..

I have good luck with CCI ammo but Ill take anything at this point. Still can't find reasonable prices on .22 ammo.

I haven' bought any 22lr in a long time. Didn't know about the "bad rep" on Remington.  And I have been shooting 22 for 53 years. I got my first .22 rifle when I was 12.  I just haven't shot the new stuff. To  me crud ammo was CCI Blazers, Winchester wildcat and Federal lighting. If I am going to do serious shooting, grab the Remingtons.

Duck, the three you mentioned last ARE cheap versions of some very good rounds. The regular versions of these three and the Remingtons ARE very good. I always preferred CCI, but I liked the others pretty good, too. Least favorite was Federals. The ONLY bad about the Remingtons is a loy of wax on the bullet for lubrication. In this respect they are "dirtier", but firing them, they are just as clean as the others. I still have several big boxes of these and CCIs that I have had for years. Regardless of price, no blazers, wildcats or lightning. These are dirty and not accurate.
